How much does the desire to help other people and solve meaningful problems affect your motivation?

A3: Hugely! It is the reason I volunteer at #RepairCafe, the Incredible Education Forest Garden, and the Community Workshop. I have such a range of skills, and I have found that the best way to make use of them has been to teach or show people how to do and repair so many things. Sharing my knowledge is probably (probably) the only way I will gain any level of immortality, as the thoughts and know how I pass on will hopefully outlive me.

One of the best things that happened at today's Repair Cafe was this chap caught me as he was leaving to say thanks for recommending Mint Linux for his son's old machine last month. My 5-year old Lenovo L14 is starting to seriously cracking at the bezel (the frame which holds the screen) after having been slightly cracking for a while. I can't find any guides on @iFixit to repair or replace it. Anyone out there who knows how difficult this is? I'm a total beginner so I just want to get an idea of how complicated it might be. It's likely I'll end up getting a new (used) laptop again, but I wish I could extend the life-span. #RepairCafe #IFixit #Lenovo

I’m absolutely in agreement with @tomi here - it might *cost less to the consumer* to buy a new one, but it’s far better for everyone if things get repaired. And that needs to be led by the industries who produce consumer goods (but won’t be, as that’s their business model). #repaircafe #RepairReuseRecycle

Do you have a running or sports watch that is running out of battery? I am uk based and offer watch battery replacement and button fettling as a service, to keep them out of landfill.

I know that Garmin has excellent customer service, but some people want to keep their existing watches going for longer.

Bring along your broken things and we'll see what we can do. Clothes and fabric things, jewellery, electronics, garden tools, anything you can carry in to the place that's not a microwave, crt, or weapon.

Is it wrong that at the repair cafe workshop yesterday I told prospective repair volunteers that they should talk to their tools?

We are off to a Repair Cafe workshop today. It will be an all day thing set up for those new to Repair Cafes to learn about how it works, what is needed, and how to set one up.
We're not there to learn much, though we might, but we are involved in some of the talks and demonstrations on setting up, basic repairing, and tools.
There will probably be a lot of anecdotes shared.

I think I will be very out of spoons by the time we get home.

Just been to another repair café near me, where I had the pleasure of being able to talk to some members of the public while they waited about Microsoft ending their support for Windows 10, and showing them how Linux is capable of everything they do on their PCs on a day to day basis, and that they can save their machines from being thrown out.

My local repair cafés will hopefully be running their own installation events, but @Endof10 is coordinating a global campaign if you want to find an installation event near you.
