#Linux #FOSS people - looking for recommendations of photo library software.

I currently have photos organized in folders by date taken, but after 17+ years, that's pushing the limits of my ability to find things decently quickly (both filesystem performance and my memory performance).

So I'm looking for something that preferably:

- can handle ~100k files, ~1 TB (key requirement)
- supports adding tags (preferably via something like XMP sidecars?), including to a batch of photos (e.g. all photos taken on a given day/week)
- can quickly jump to a given date
- can quickly jump to a given tag combination
- preferably can also handle short video files, but not crucial
- editing etc not required
- AI/ML features not required
- generally the simpler the better
- bonus points if it's been around for 5+ years and Debian packages it

I'm putting together a persistent USB installation of Linux Mint for a friend who wants to switch to Linux. It has both a tweaked Cinnamon in it, and an XFce that looks like MacOSX. Lots of apps & games pre-installed too. He'll love it, I'm sure.

Switching people to Linux, one by one.

Hello all - for anyone who's interested, we'll be having our June monthly #libre | Free and Open Source Software (#FOSS) catchup tomorrow (Tues) evening, at 20:00 NZST. We meet at meeting.iridescent.nz (our BigBlueButton instance) - no software install required, just a modern browser (on mobile or desktop/laptop). All welcome - from the total neophyte to the curious tyre-kicker to the grizzled veteran! Hope to see some of you there!

fellas, anyone #hiring #rust or #python junior developers?

I'm tired of trying over and over with these enormous hiring processes.

I might have a year of professional experience, but I've been developing and contributing to #foss for 6 years now.

I'm an advanced Linux user, having taken a sysadmin role before.

I'm a systems programmer, full stack web developer (I do #react too), backend developer, embedded engineer... really, I can take on whatever you throw at me!

I just got 6 more #nixbook ready to go to new homes.

This is 6 more people who's lives will be positively changed by getting a great laptop for free, with solid FOSS software on it.

Think of how much this helps even the digital divide. I'm dedicated to make this my life's work at the moment. Imagine if companies could safely offload their "old" hardware, and it could end up like this, for the public good.

Again, huge thanks to #linux and #nixos and all of #foss for making this possible!

Happy Sunday y'all ⛅

Heck let's do this. Will be going Live this Wednesday gaming on Linux (XeroLinux).

But before I do, let's see which game I shall play. Vote for it ! Might play others though, will see how it goes.

Hello Fediverse. So I'm looking for a #remote #opensource job or project in European timezones.

I am not good in writing CVs. So I'm just listing the projects I have done:

I'm a #Linux user. I have good experience using CLI, and I have basic shell scripting skills. I also have a little experience with #FreeBSD

I am also good at reading academic papers, standards(like RFCs) and manpages.

I am up for working on #FOSS projects as freelancer or part time contracts.

Boosts appreciated :)

PS: I am also familiar with #CommonLisp. But I highly doubt if I can find a #Lisp job anywhere!
