@Snoro certainly the #ALP in Australia don’t show any sign to limit #FossilFuel growth but if we now have a UK example then maybe… The underlying issue is that the political class sees Australia as a #PetroState and that our economy is dependent upon fossil fuels. It’s the line pushed heavily disguised by the fossil barons.

There's an NGO in #Indonesia that has been happy to speak with me about #Japan or #WorldBank funding for #coal or #fossilfuel projects. 🏭

But when I reached out to them about #China's funding, they ignored my message and then apologized for being "too busy last week" - but I had time and asked if we can do an interview that week or next. They proceeded to do the same thing again! 🤯

Working on another Japan-Indonesia story & bet they'll be responsive, but they've lost my trust.

“There simply isn’t enough land available for the level of afforestation that would be needed to offset #FossilFuel-related emissions” says Rich Collett-White at UK energy analysts Carbon Tracker. “Pursuing anywhere near that level of afforestation risks increasing food prices" newscientist.com/article/24850

New Scientist · Offsetting global fossil fuel stores by planting trees is impossibleBy Madeleine Cuff

This weekend I came across the international cheer leading competition.

The German team did a pretty good job and was interviewed after their performance.

The American journalist was surprised to learn the members came from 20 or so different cities across Germany.

She asked how they manage to train together.

The team leader answered without missing a beat and with a smirk:
Public transport.

Shot fired.

I think it’s pretty notable that Greta Thunberg has openly blamed capitalism for the climate crisis we’re in.

She argues that the current system, driven by fossil fuel interests, colonialism, imperialism, and exploitation, is fundamentally responsible for environmental destruction and social injustice.

While she has been a prominent figure for several years, her media presence has fluctuated. Recently, she has received renewed attention, particularly after high-profile events like the flotilla incident, which brought her back into the headlines and media focus.

So yes, Greta is definitely back in the spotlight, and the media seems to be paying close attention again. LMAO!

I always find it pathetic when people think that we will "also feel the #climateCrisis locally in the future". I don't know which air-conditioned hotel bar they're sitting in, but we're now getting 10 degrees on top as a gift from the #fossilFuel industry. It works like a heat pump: franceinfo.fr/environnement/cr For the baseline: Some years ago we had these temperatures only in August.

The #goodNews: Use that local feeling for #climate #communication!

“More people will die,” said Cory Zigler, a professor of biostatistics at Brown who has studied #air #pollution #deaths from #coal-fired #PowerPlants. “More of this type of pollution that we know kills people will be in the air.”

…Virtually all the benefits from the rules come from restricting the burning of coal, #oil & natural #gas. The #FossilFuel industry was a heavy contributor to #Trump’s campaign & #Republicans overall.

@Snoro In addition to the poisoning and destruction of #soils and #ecological habitats, the #carbonFootprint of #wars is so desastrous that people would end every #war immediately if they were aware of it. Unfortunately, most countries do not count the entire balance sheet, for example when they ‘only’ buy weapons from elsewhere. Wars are still #fossilFuel driven.

I once researched real numbers for an article, it was quite impossible, so I gave up. 1/2

It was a little strange talking with some of the #Australia focused climate/energy groups for this @thejapantimes story.

They really wanted to focus on #Japan, and not #China - despite the latter being the main driver of #LNG growth and the country signing the most long-term deals with #Australian #fossilfuel companies.

And since I published the article, only the #Aussies haven't responded or shared the piece.

The Japan Times · China is eroding Japan's LNG dominance. How does that affect Japanese buyers?By Nithin Coca

"What matters here, to me, is that the most advanced technologies, processes and businesses on the planet — #artificialintelligence and #machinelearning platforms built by IBM, Google, Microsoft, Amazon and others — are brought to bear on #fossilfuel extraction, production and distribution: the number one driver of #climatechange, of CO2 and greenhouse gas emissions, and of #globalextinction."

95-Metre ‘Mega-Banner’ Urges #Carney to Pick a Path, Choose Renewables and #ClimateAction

Ahead of next week’s Speech from the Throne, four national climate groups mounted a 95-metre fabric installation in Ottawa’s Major’s Hill Park on Wednesday, urging Prime Minister #MarkCarney to “pick a path” between new oil and gas #pipelines and climate action.

On the same day, Faith and Climate Action held a “pray-in” at #RoyalBank of #Canada headquarters in Toronto, protesting bank financing for new #fossilfuel infrastructure like the proposed #PrinceRupert Gas Transmission #PRGT project in #BritishColumbia which is expected to receive #BCgovernment approval within days.

The “mega-banner” in #Ottawa “took over 20 hours to construct, dozens of volunteers, sheer grit, and caffeine-fuelled delusion,” wrote Emily Lowan, fossil fuel supply campaigns lead at Climate Action Network-Canada (CAN-Rac), in an email to supporters. “It may even break records as the largest banner in Canadian #climate movement history!”
