Dang! #MauiKit just keeps looking nicer and nicer! Can't wait to be able to use an entire #Maui based OS on a #MobileLinux phone, such as my #PinePhonePro (or maybe #FuriLabs #FLX1 or #LiberuxNEXX )

Alright, it's time to finally start using this account.
For those that are unaware, we moved from Fosstodon to TH.S on April 26, 2025 and we haven't posted anything on this account since then.. until now.
A quick introduction, we're the maintainer of an Arch-based distribution for #PinePhone, #PinePhonePro and #PineTab2 and our latest release (at the time of this toot) was in December last year (it's been that long, huh)
This account will be used to post updates and news about that distribution.
Thanks treehouse.systems team for letting us in.

I've been fascinated by the work of the Honeyguide Group @honeyguide on supporting #FreeBSD on the #PinephonePro, and I gotta ay, it's cool af. I think it's well on the way to being daily-driver material, especially if #Phosh ever makes its way over.
Just my two cents. Look forward to seeing what they do next, and it might even inspire me to pick up a Pinephone Pro :3
I know, many have been asking for this and even more out there didn’t even dare to ask.
But finally, the wait is over:
You can now use your #PinephonePro running #FreeBSD to do all your #Borland C++ #OS2 development while waiting for 1997 to arrive.
For those here who missed the latest #FreeBSD quarterly status updates at https://www.freebsd.org/status/report-2025-01-2025-03/, no worries, we have summarised the most important news for you.
@jz Thanks for the reply. Are you using the #Pinephonepro? It is a nice device with its better processing power but I did have a lot of issues with cellular connectivity. I did use the FOSS modem firmware & that always seemed better than stock, but I began to have quite a few issues. Missed calls from the modem not waking up. I've read about scripts people employ keep modem on but I am not familiar with how to write those. And of course the battery drain. Do you run into these issues?
I have a question for those running #Manjaro on their #Pinephone. Are they still releasing updates for the Pinephone and or #PinephonePro? I haven't seen any new Beta builds in about two years. For the longest time Manjaro was the best distro for the Pinephone and I was able to daily drive it for several months without any major problems. #mobilelinux
I updated my #Pinephone and my #Pinephonepro to see the current state of #mobilelinux and I really like many of the changes. I still need to insert my SIM card to see how well the cellular modem and texting work as of late, but I was saddened to see that last stable release #Mobian did was about two years ago. I did see they are still pushing weekly developer builds, however. How many people are daily driving their #Pinephones? Which distributions are you using? What do you use your phone for?
Weekly GNU-like #MobileLinux Update (20/2025): A Linux Phone From Africa and #Phosh 0.47.0
The PinePhone Pro tangent in the "Sidenote: What about the Librem 5?" section in https://linmob.net/gtk-418-the-pinephone-and-megapixels/#sidenote-what-about-the-librem-5 had to be corrected after playing with Megapixels 2.0 alpha 1 on the #PinePhonePro
The APKBUILDs used to try this can be found at https://framagit.org/linmobapps/apkbuilds/-/commit/c8952b4e6b402e7a88859c30b20fce685c0cfc26
My Gentoo PinePhone(Pro) overlay has been updated. It now features Megapixels 2 Alpha 1 and Phosh 46 im not 100% sure I can upate to phosh 47 when it will release, due to the fact that gnome on gentoo is always abit behind. I will keep you all updated on it.
I've updated the Pine64 Wiki with the up-to-date overlay and documentation locations. https://wiki.pine64.org/wiki/PinePhone_Pro_Software_Releases#Gentoo.
I would stongly recommend using the binaryhost since it recudes the compile time on the PinePhonePro. The binaryhost is PinePhonePro Only since lets be real using a normal PinePhone with Gentoo is not really realistic. The Binaryhost is updating to Python 3.13.
Weekly GNU-like #MobileLinux Update (19/2025): Waking it up to wake you up
For my #mobilelinux peeps here are instructions on setting up widevine L3 so you can atleast access some DRM content. I have tested this on the furilabs #FLX1 and #pinephonepro and they both now have widevine support. Biggest thing for me is spotify web pwa, some people can use it to view 480p atleast on netflix assuming you set the UA correctly. This should work on all #ARM based device as it is software based. Thanks #AsahiLinux for creating the script

In case you missed it: @tobykurien now has figured out how to use the #PinephonePro headphone to USB serial adapter for #FreeBSD network access until real network support is working, see README at https://codeberg.org/Honeyguide/freebsd-pinephonepro/src/branch/main/README.md
We are looking for a #FreeBSD committer who would be willing to mentor and help getting our changes regarding #PinephonePro support into CURRENT.
If you want to have a look, the repo is located at https://codeberg.org/Honeyguide/freebsd-pinephonepro
I've been working on porting #FreeBSD to the #PinePhonePro and happy to report that I am releasing a developer build that you can try out! If you are a FreeBSD developer, the image contains the kernel source and build tools for development on-device.

Some more great progress by @tobykurien who is porting #FreeBSD to the #PinephonePro in the project sponsored by us:
After getting #X11 running a short while ago, he now implemented #touchscreen support.
