Hi all! I’m looking for interesting accounts that talk sometimes about #LiteraryCriticism, or maybe other #literature and #CriticalTheory-based accounts. I’ve tried searching for authors I like, but haven’t had a huge amount of luck beyond finding posts. I’m especially looking for #SciFi criticism, but am curious about a lot of other genres too. Some other things I like are #DFW, #MarkFisher, #PKD, #BeckyChambers, #Solarpunk, #Cyberpunk, #Existentialism, #ArabLit, #Metamodernism. TY!

É o conto que deu origem ao filme "O Dia Em Que A Terra Parou" (The Day the Earth Stood Still, 1951). Leia mesmo que você já tenha assistido ao filme, com certeza irá te surpreender!

PS: O Volume 2 contém "O homem bicentenário" (Isaac Asimov)

I'm reading a review of The Creator that goes on about the implications of Tyrell Corp's motto "more human than human" in Blade Runner, scoffs at the White Zombie relation, then never once notes it's a nod to Theodore Sturgeon. It's amazing how some people can be simultaneously famous yet totally unheard of.

"... #PKD's #SecondVariety, and not even #TheMatrix, but just as #surveillance technology has surpassed what was possible in #Orwell's #1984, in particular in the #PRC, we are moving beyond #Fahrenheit451, too.

👉The biggest trouble is that the ancient #Viking #Norns seem to be weaving all those #dystopian fates of humanity into one.👈

@futurebird for me those are a good example of 'prediction or inspiration?'

A lot of #PKDick is that way, too. If you go to Technovelgy & browse the #PKD category it's a catalog of social-control #DarkPatterns. The world should be grateful he didn't go into advertising. He'd've still crashed & burned personally but been orders of magnitude more influential than Jay Chiat, who did more than enough damage with just his own deeply-limited intellect.

technovelgy.comPhilip K. Dick: Science Fiction Technology and Ideas

“Dick’s published output — at least 35 novels and countless short stories — ranges from sublime to inscrutable, which is partly a result of volume. His book advances were skimpy and there was a family to support, so he wrote quickly, often fueled by amphetamine tablets. (Dick’s typing speed: 120 words per minute.) If you’re a stickler for prose style and hold a zero-tolerance policy toward the word “boobies,” this is not your fellow.”

Whenever I think of #AI and #LLMs hallucinating, I think of #PKD.

The extraordinary thing about the #JohnMastodon vs Elmo Musk thing is that it's naturally occurring #gnostic #mythology. Musk is exactly the egoist demiurge who claims to be the creator but creates nothing, while #JohnMastodon is Abraxas: no two accounts can agree on their details, they are contradictory and multiple, they cannot be reduced to a single instance.

#PKD and #CarlJung would have been peeing their pants if they could have watched this occurring in real time.

Cyborgs are not abstract theoretical constructs.
Cyberpunk has ALWAYS been a warning about what capital does to bodies, amongst others. Disabled people live and breathe this stuff and not in some edgy way, but because it's our lives. We are here and we are hybrid multiplicities and assemblages. We are More Human Than Human, and in the words of Roy Batty in Bladerunner: We Want More Life, F-cker!
