Steinberg's Cubase was the standard for music production software on the Atari ST in the late 80s/early 90s for professional and hobby musicians alike (if they could afford the software...).

However, it seems to be hard to find files with actual music created with Cubase nowadays (.all/.arr file formats). Is there an archive of Cubase-created songs somewhere? Ideally some 1980s synthpop/new wave style music to run a demo in our retrocomputing lab next week.

My tiny artist collective has its first "gallery" up (some items are still pending and will be up later)!

My contribution is a song made entirely out of modified whale noises, powered by Orca as a midi controller / visualization tool! (100r.co/site/orca.html)

Uploading the video here for easy viewing!

Group is meeting this week to decide how we want to expand the group (whether to keep it local, how many invites we want to do at once, etc)

Apparently there used to be a MIDI interface for the Atari 2600 - the MIDI2600 - but it doesn't seem to exist anymore.

There is an archive of some PIC assembler and gerber files, but I can't find a schematic or description of the design...

I think it was meant to drive the Synthcart.

Now I'm wondering what it would take to recreate it.

Currently thinking an Arduino and some CD4016 analog switches to replace the keypads...

So I found that there is #DecentSampler also for #iPad. I thought: Well this would be easy, I got this #CameraKit and I have a USB-#MIDI input device, so I could just have a dedicated computer/tablet playing these few samples.

I tend to forget that the MIDI support of #IOS 15.x is broken beyond repair.

Now I have 2 iPads with IOS 12 that have working MIDI support, but these are too old for many apps I need (such as Allen&Heath mixing console remote control).

I have 2 other iPads with IOS 15, most apps run on these, but none that need MIDI work.

I ordered two younger used iPads now which are supposed to run everything. For a while…

Needless to say, processing power, battery life and all the rest of the very old iPads would be sufficient for just everything. It's entirely a software compatibility thing going on. The IOS 15 devices have less processing power left than my older ones / waste too much of their power for a uselessly high screen resolution.

And I'd claim this is on purpose by #Apple.
