@dmarti UBO with all filters enabled plus umatrix with settings to block every damn JS would make life a bit heard but gives us a picture of how many dirty things a website is doing.

By the why does any one know why #umatrix doesn't get any updates these days?

@tesmaia Oh, but there is.

Or at least was.

Meet #DoNotTrack

Do Not Track (DNT) is a formerly official HTTP header field, designed to allow internet users to opt-out of tracking by websites—which includes the collection of data regarding a user's activity across multiple distinct contexts, and the retention, use, or sharing of data derived from that activity outside the context in which it occurred.

Industry refused to adopt it and the standard was withdrawn in 2018. So we get !@#$%^&*() consent dialogues.

My own response to those:

  • Nuke the dialogue using either uBlock Origin's element blocker or if that doesn't stick, a Stylish local CSS rule.
  • Use uMatrix to deny ALL cookies from the domain.

Note that this is usually overkill as uMatrix typically denies third-party cookies anyway. But it's my little personal protest.

(uBlock Origin, uMatrix, and Stylish are all browser extensions for #Firefox, Chrome, Safari, etc. Note that you want uBlock Origin and NOT the uBlock, which has gone to the dark side.

#uBlockOrigin #uMatrix

What the fuck, TIL that #uMatrix was discontinued in 2021. Why wasn't there an update that notified users? Or even an update to the readme or the description on the addon store? It would have taken like 10 minutes to write.

So, I use both the #uMatrix and #NoScript plug-ins in my #Firefox browser, which lets me filter out most scammy spy-crap (and ads).

But they also show me websites in a way most people never see. I see exactly what kinds of crap the creators felt okay with sticking into the site.

Literally 99.9% of sites use Google Analytics, Fonts.GoogleAPIs, GoogleTagManager, and/or the Gstatic library. I never allow any of them, and guess what?

99% of those sites work just fine w/o 'em.

No może niekoniecznie tor ale coś więcej niż tylko adblocki.
Kombinacja kilku pluginów typu #privacybadger #ghostery czy #umatrix daje radę choć wymaga początkowego tuningowania do częściej odwiedzanych stron. Do tego jakieś dobre praktyki z mailem np wszyscy znani nadawcy/odbiorcy mają swoje osobne aliasy a cała reszta domyślnie do spamu.
