@fosserytech This article on #Firefox 141 reads like press release stenography. It says:
“Mozilla says that this new privacy feature works by splitting exceptions into baseline (core functionality) and convenience (extra features), allowing you to choose improved site compatibility without compromising key privacy protections.”

That’s it. Not one example of things in 2 categories where there used to be one category. With the Mozilla Foundation acquiring an online advertising company and steering into AI and ads, every change to #privacy features needs to be scrutinised. Does it make ads work better? Is that the “improved site compatibility” that they’re talking about?

It’s a rubbish article because it does little more than restate what #Mozilla apparently said. It ads no information and doesn’t even attempt to put the statement into context. It doesn’t even link or explain the source of Mozilla’s statement. Where did they “say” that? I need to go there if I want to understand, because this author couldn’t be arsed.

FOSS NEWS

Mastodon (official) mobile apps and mastodon.social, mastodon.online web UI will include easily dismissable donation banner:
news.itsfoss.com/mastodon-in-a
(Some people often get mad if a project asks for donation within its software UI, but I think volunteer devs also deserve to get some payment for their work, it's fair to include a donation notice, if it doesn't annoy users with its placement.)

Brave and AdGuard will block Microsoft Recall:

Bluesky introduces age verification (using payment cards, ID scans, or face scans) for accessing adult content and direct messaging, and content controls for UK users:
alternativeto.net/news/2025/7/
(Yeah we're heading into a dystopian future, where you can't use social media without giving up sensitive information... Or can't send messages because a small portion of predators also use that feature... It shouldn't be the responsibility of governments and social media platforms to protect children, it's the parents' task to protect their children. If governments would really care about protecting children, they would rather push campaigns targeted towards parents to raise awareness of the importance of paying attention what their child is doing online. But nah, this "protect children" thing is only pushed for emotional manipulation, so that the governments can cover their arse, while building surveillance infrastructure.)

my browser, #floorp, which is based on #firefox, for some reason doesn't let me save images to my computer, so i'm just having to screenshot them lol

but that's a compromise i'm willing to take if it means more privacy and more security

Today I learned through this blog post that Firefox has:

- A ' binding that will search only links
- The ability to override websites which disable right click by holding Shift

To the last hidden gem I'd add @ to search for search engines (how meta)
