For me retro Computing Hardware is like legacy PA Audio Hardware.

It stays in the past

I leave it where it is {which is way in the past} and I just work with the digital versions.

New resurrected versions of Retro Hardware have the same problems as the A4000T when I bought it. Production is low which makes the price extremely high and repairs even more expensive

I have multiple functioning SID chips so if I want to do a project I'll just get myself yap Raspberry Pi5 {I'll save for it} and I make a project where I generally the songs from an actual SID chip.

yap = yet another pie

When I write a document in LibreOffice (or any other office suite), it should be possible to pick your desired style guide. Here's a few popular names.
1. The Chicago Manual of Style
2. AP Style
3. APA Manual
4. New Oxford Style Manual
5. MLA Handbook
6. AMA Manual of Style
Do you include spaces around em dashes? Should you rock a serial comma in lists? The style guide you follow should set the grammar check to do the right thing.

TIL: an exhausted #cmos #battery can cause #Linux to behave strangely after a hard #shutdown (caused by a #UPS being incorrectly turned off) - it uses the BIOS time to check the filesystem block timestamps, and as it had gone back to 2012 the OS thinks the filesystem time is in the future! (At least the hard drive on this server isn't on the way out yet which is what I had feared, but this required an emergency visit to the office as it is the main #VOIP #PBX) #sysadmin

I needed a simple code lock for this years #jotajoti #scout event - won’t reveal why just yet 🙂

Everything these days revolves around microcontrollers and sure, easy to do, however I needed simplicity and 9V battery power, outside at potentially freezing temperatures and it also needs to be low cost, I plan to use at least three of them..

Came across this simple circuit, almost too simple to be true, but it does the job just fine: push the four buttons in the right order and the output is enabled. Bingo 😃

Not overly secure but for my purposes, it’s a perfect little vintage code lock 🔐👌🏼☺️

And another thing . . .

Dear #Unicode Consortium, OS vendors, and #WordProcessor devs.

Fix the #ellipsis situation. #AP styling demands ... (three dots in a row) and #Chicago (#CMOS) . . . (three dots spaced out, but still a single character). Most narrative writers (fiction, memoir, etc.) standardize on Chicago styling.

A character exists to support the AP styled ellipsis. For Chicago we have to type [dot] [non-breaking space] [dot] [non-breaking space] [dot]. This sucks. FIX IT!
