The Australian Treasurer Hon. Jim Chalmers has been promising to expand the right to repair - it will be interesting to see what emerges in this policy space.

The US just withdrew from #UNESCO.

The Trump State Dept put the rationale into one succinct paragraph:

"UNESCO works to advance divisive social and cultural causes and maintains an outsized focus on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals [#SDGs], a globalist, ideological agenda for international development at odds with our America First foreign policy. UNESCO’s decision to admit the “State of #Palestine” as a Member State is highly problematic, contrary to U.S. policy, and contributed to the proliferation of anti-#Israel rhetoric within the organization."

Under UNESCO rules, the withdrawal cannot take effect until the end of 2026.

PS: There's some history here. Reagan withdrew the US from UNESCO in December 1983. GW Bush rejoined in September 2002. Trump withdrew us in his first term, October 2017. Biden rejoined in July 2023.

This document, which was signed by 290 individuals, institutions and projects, contained eleven recommendations for promoting citizen science in support of the SDGs. Now, four years later, we would like to take stock, assess to what extent these recommendations have been implemented, and start co-designing an updated version of the CS SDG Declaration. New study: "Research related to…three #SDGs is primarily published by researchers from institutions situated in the global #North. Well-resourced institutions contribute disproportionately to the study of the three SDGs. The share of authorships by women is rising, but still far away from equity. We find higher ranked institutions to produce more #OpenAccess articles, with a declining relationship between institutional ranking and the share of OA. Finally, we find overall higher shares of OA publishing across low- and high-income countries, compared to lower and upper medium income countries."
