I am looking for a reliable mail hosting provider, with 2FA, unlimited aliases (including catch-all * ), POP+SMTP+IMAP, no mobile app required, with configurable domain but not bundled to the provider being the registrar. Possibly based in EU/Switzerland.

Discarded options:
- I am moving away from Gandi.
- Infomaniak seems to require registering domain with them.
- Zoho based in UK.
- MXroute does not seem to offer 2FA.
- Autistici/Inventati only with one of their domains (not configurable).
- Fastmail based in Australia.
- Mailcheap based in USA.

Thankful for any suggestions 😀

Ok, so the de-Googleification project is moving forward. I moved my main email handling from #Google to #Fastmail. My calendar is now handled on my #Nextcloud instance.

I've tossed the Google Calendar app overboard on my phone. (I've disabled it. It cannot be deleted... yet...)

On my phone, I now use Fossily Calendar and jtx Board together with DAVx5 and ICSx5.

I'm still figuring how I'm going to handle my contacts.

Now I'm trying to find a general #email replacement. I think I've narrowed it down to @fastmail and @mailbox_org. I also like @startmail but it has no calendar.

#Fastmail seems to just work well and has practically unlimited aliases accounts. But MB seems more committed to #privacy / data protection, has online office, and is about half the price per month of the other. Both have some cloud storage, which is a plus.

I'm not really sure which one to go with. Any thoughts?

ale przynajmniej odpisują i to szybko:
"I can share that we take into account exchange rates and local taxation laws when determining prices in different locations. However, as you point out, I can see that paying in Polish złoty seems to be more expensive than paying in Euro.

I've raised this with our team to review in future product planning. Please note that we're unable to offer any timeline as to if or when changes could be made here."

So.. I'm beginning the port AWAY from #Google domains hosted email now!

This #DEI statement is the last straw!

Is #FastMail the one to port your domain(s) to?

Does anyone know of a better email hosting company? (I have 4 or 5 domains to move and want to make sure I can 'port all the current emails in my family's inboxes as well. I want to make this as seamless as possible).

Thanks!

@lisamelton, can you boost for reach please?

#ProtonMail doesn't support grabbing your email via IMAP from another service (there is a desktop gateway for paid users).

They do have an export tool (proton.me/support/proton-mail-) but it spits out a bunch of .eml files with JSON metadata.

I wrote a quick script to convert such an export into a classic mbox file, which should be suitable for importing into, say, #Fastmail

Anyway, the script is here:

(I wrote the script in like 5 minutes, don't judge me.)

@jerry I'm unhappy with #FastMail's treatment of American employees who were trying to unionize, but they haven't revealed themselves to be fascists — yet. No encryption, but otherwise good functionality. 🤷

An opportunity has certainly opened for someone. We have to face the fact that we cannot keep the same vendors forever.

Gmail workspace - which I pay for - just added their AI crap to my account without the possibility of opting out. This is the last straw for me (I know, I'm a very patient person).

So - #protonmail or #fastmail or some other option?

I need email, calendar and custom domain management.

@mcepl @kfitz I use both. Fastmail is by far the better UX, even with Runbox's "Runbox 7" interface. It's much easier to add domains, see config instructions for SPF and DKIM, and do all of the other stuff with Fastmail, as well as actually process emails. Their handling of spam is infinitely better than Runbox. So why do I also use Runbox? Simply the privacy angle. Fastmail's servers are in the US, even though they're an Australian company. #FastMail #Runbox

I share this from time to time not to spam people by any means but rather because I choose to use this service and support it with the power of my purchasing dollars. I first got the 30 day free trial. by the 10th day I subscribed for one year. By day 30 I subscribed for 3 years the longest their subscription runs because I was so pleased with the service. Its web interface is #Accessible for doing administrative things and setting up rules server side. It also works well in third party clients such as #Outlook, #Thunderbird and the native mail app on #iOS. So if anyone's interested in #Fastmail feel free to visit: join.fastmail.com/998bc1c3

BTW, seeing a number of folks recommend #fastmail . Been a user for over a decade. Nice email with a single caveat. I need to use it (& do!) on ipad and iphone. Works great if you have an internet connection. Locks both devices hard if no service or wifi. Submitted a ticket on this and they acknowledge they have no offline mode. It is about 4 millionth spot down on the dev list. So, know your use case!
