The #adtech "industry has never really questioned the notion that #1to1marketing is a worthy goal. Rather than learn the lessons of the consumer rebellion that led to #GDPR, #CCPA, and countless other regulations, we are embarking on a new style of #consumerspying based on a new set of private signals. Today we are leveraging those signals to bully people into buying stuff they don’t need as well as instill in them irrational fears in order to prompt them to support anti-democracy candidates."

Google, Facebook and Microsoft have decided to use all of your communications to train their AI, including social networks and your private emails.

According to Europe #GPDR, California #CCPA and Sealand #ROT13 act, you may opt out.

In order to opt out, copy/paste this message on your profile on social networks and send it to all your mail contacts. On Mastodon, you can also reboost this.

"ARIRE TBAAN TVIR LBH HC - ARIRE TBAAN YRG LBH QBJA"

This has been confirmed by Elon Musk and @aral

@neil Yep. And contrary to DNT now actually based on laws such as #GDPR or #CCPA.
Supported by Mozilla and others (I have it already turned on, now let's wait for the websites to detect and support it - some preliminary decisions by regulators already exist):

globalprivacycontrol.orgGlobal Privacy Control — Take Control Of Your PrivacyExercise your privacy rights in one step via the “Global Privacy Control” (GPC) signal, a proposed specification backed by over a dozen organizations.
This is a brave and yes, noble stance, as well as a social commentary on the current state of #madness whereby foreign governments attempt to dictate and determine #US_policy.

My solution, even though almost all services I've deployed in the past decade or so are actually #GDPR or #CCPA compliant, has just been to include a prohibition in my ToS/AUP for residents of the #EU and sometimes #California too, respectively.

I believe in #cancel_ulture. I am glad that there are US states and even entire countries that wish to exclude themselves from participating in the Internet with the rest of us - go paint yourselves into a small corner of your little fricken' bedrooms until you can't even get out into the kitchen to make yourselves a #ham_sannich.

Notes from my Reddit Account Deletion saga: Well, after my Reddit permaban incident I went and deleted my Reddit account. infosec.exchange/@emresaglam/1

After deleting my account I also went and did a California Consumer Privacy Act request. Their process was to authenticate and do the CCPA request over this web form. reddit.com/settings/data-reque

Since I already deleted my account, there was no way for me to do the CCPA request and I ended up contacting them.

Reddit ended up reactivating my account and they made me go through the web form. This takes 30 days and in the end I should have a link that I can download the data that they know about me. I might do another update. (The process was smooth, kudos to Reddit)

In the mean while, I went and deleted everything I can in my account. These include: Posts, Comments, Messages, Friends (sorry). (Since I was suspended for no reason, I couldn’t change up/down votes.) I used Power Delete Suite Bookmarklet for this: github.com/j0be/PowerDeleteSui

Since I wrote the request anyway, I also created a CCPA and GDPR request template for anyone to use, you can see it here. If you are a California or EU citizen feel free to use them. github.com/emresaglam/CCPA-GDP

I was worried that I would miss Reddit, but I didn't. This was probably the most pleasantly surprising part of getting rid of Reddit :)

Infosec ExchangeEmre Sağlam (@emresaglam@infosec.exchange)Attached: 1 image Goodbye Reddit I guess? I have been a Reddit user for close to 17 years. 16y7mo to be exact. Today I logged in and I got the red banner that says my account is permanently suspended. I never posted anything other than a few car pics, some game screenshots and a few comments in my Reddit life. Never got into any discussions, never posted anything remotely against the Reddit content policy. Never got a private message that is explaining why I got suspended (unlike it says in their article) After my appeal, I got a basic automated message that I cannot reply, explaining that my appeal has been reviewed and it is permanent. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I have no clue why I’m banned, and no clue if my appeal ever got reviewed by a human. The state of social media is going in deep :burning_poop: My prediction is that major social media conglomerates will screw or hurt their users one way or another and people will start living in their "cyber neighborhoods" instead of their massive "cyber megapoles". This happened to Facebook, Twitter in massive scales. Maybe this is Reddit's turn now? #reddit #socialmedia #permabanned

@w7voa my own experience with Twitter and arbitrary suspension (once for criticizing a Kardashian, with facts that simply exist) and my current Rubicon requesting all the data they collected under #CCPA and them interpreting it as asking for reinstatement (which they say they'll do then they don't) means my next move is filing a complaint with the state AG just for kicks. Musk has gone full moron. Make it hurt.
