In Belgium pro-#Palestinian activists smash up an armoured vehicle plant preparing vehicles for #Ukraine. Now British pro-Palestinian #activists reportedly planned to target airbases used to train Ukrainian pilots.
I don't for a second believe these are coincidences.
The exhibition shows photographs about the work of #journalists and #activists like #Charter97 in #Belarus, @rferl.org in Prague, and #RayWong from #HongKongIndigenous, who were also present in person. It was quite brilliant and moving to hear their testimony about how digital #privacy and #encryption are crucial for their resistance to #authoritarianism.

* Last week, Prime Minister #MarkCarney revealed Lena Metledge Diab will serve as Canada’s new Immigration Minister.
The first thing Diab should do as Minister is bring #ClimateActivist Zain Haq back to Canada by greenlighting his Temporary Residence Permit that has been processing since January.
Zain was deported to Pakistan in January for climate activism that resulted in low-level mischief charges. He’d been living in Canada his entire adult life, and with his Canadian wife, Sophia Papp, since 2023.
Sophia has been given the devastating choice to remain in Canada without her spouse or relocate to #Pakistan , where she doesn’t speak the language and faces significant barriers to her health and wellbeing.
A mere 48 hours before Zain was deported, he and Sophia’s Spousal Sponsorship application was rejected by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) without substantive explanation.
The couple’s lawyer, Randall Cohn, has stated that this eleventh-hour rejection is likely illegal. It also denied Zain and Sophia’s right to procedural fairness, since they didn’t have time to access the appeal process enshrined in the #BillOfRights.
Zain and Sophia’s situation is reminiscent of the #unethical treatment of many #migrants in the U.S.
#IRCC ’s last minute rejection of a young couple’s Sponsorship Application without substantive reason should raise alarm bells for anyone of conscience, but especially for those with a #legal background – and before getting into #politics , Minister Diab was a #lawyer in Halifax. That’s why we have to get Zain’s file on her desk as soon as possible. *

People on an aid flotilla for Gaza that was hit by drones in international waters off Malta overnight are confirmed safe, according to the Maltese government.

The group says there are 30 activists on board and they have not heard from them for several hours.
Four Australian activists were preparing to board the ship in Malta and journey to Gaza, which remains under an Israeli blockade, with food, medical supplies and others.
In 2010, Israeli commandos boarded a similar ship, the MV Mavi Marmara, and killed nine Turkish citizens and one Turkish-American citizen who were onboard.
A group of pro-Palestinian activists say their ship has been struck by drone fire in international waters off the coast of Malta.
The group, the Freedom Flotilla coalition, says its passenger ship, Conscience, was 13 nautical miles east of Malta when it was struck twice in the bow, 20 minutes after midnight local time.
According to the group, the strikes damaged the ship's generator and it was taking on water.

“#PeterDutton (Liberal) has dodged questions about his labelling of some organisations “hate media”.
At a press conference in #MossVale, a reporter referred to Dutton saying twice that some organisations, including the #ABC and #TheGuardian, were “#HateMedia” and that #journalists were #activists, asking what #questions the opposition leader had #disliked.
“I think what Australians are concentrating on only days out from the election is not the feelings of, you know, with respect, anyone [from the media],” the opposition leader replied.
The journalist interrupted: “You’re the one that’s taken issue”.
Dutton continued his answer, saying families were interested in what’s better for them and #promoted his #FuelExcise reduction and #TaxRebate. Another reporter asked: “Isn’t #blaming the #media just a convenient excuse at this point of the campaign?”
Dutton continued #speaking over #questions, saying the prime minister had no interest in stopping gangs. “I want to keep our country safe and that’s exactly what we’ll do,” Dutton said before walking away. Another journalist yelled about #integrity as Dutton walked off.”
