Yes, it's idyllic and we're extremely privileged. But also: we don't have to accept things that suck, like sitting in the car line breathing exhaust for half an hour every day. There's a #BetterWay to do things.

People are going too fast on this road. How can we prevent this? There’s already a speed limit but people are ignoring it. What can we do?

I tend to avoid #NewYearsResolutions, but not this year.
In 2024, I resolve to push back every single time someone uses the term #VRU, or #VulnerableRoadUser.

It's a transportation catchall for "humans not safely ensconsed inside a motor vehicle," and it's lazy, inaccurate, offensive, and counterproductive.

Yesterday, this cool kid--with her bright red bike, hot pink helmet, dual blinkies, and rotating rainbow wheel lights--waited at a high-viz crosswalk in a school zone while 7 adult drivers pretended not to see her.

What is a bike bus?

“An organized group of children and adults riding together on a set route” with a “bus driver” guiding the group and kids getting on the “bus” riding their bikes.

Today I sat at a bench by 4 way stop and counted cars that fully stopped. The criteria was only that the wheels stopped completely.

The totals: 23/147 (16%) cars came to a complete stop.

If you cut it down to only cars that stopped when there was no conflict, it goes down to 3/147 (2%)

I don’t want to hear how bikes shouldn’t get safe space because they don’t follow the rules. Neither do cars and our cities should be built to keep everyone safe.

Why????

My bike camera is mounted almost 3' off the ground. There is zero reason for a vehicle this size to exist, much less to roam neighborhood streets while kids are out walking & biking to school.

@RichmondFamilySF and it's not just fixing that intersection. We have unsafe streets throughout the city, and hazardous driving behaviors are much too high everywhere.

I don't understand why #SFPD has eliminated #sfpdtraffic in favor of officers hanging out at high end stores. Do we, as pedestrians, residents and taxpayers need to hire off-duty police like so many businesses do so that we can stop driver violence?

Last day of #school. The kid's biking all the way home on her own for the first time.

We've been practicing for this day for weeks. She knows the rules, knows how to handle her bike, knows to look out for drivers because they're not looking out for her.

We can do this.

If you are out on the roads this afternoon, PLEASE keep your eyes peeled for happy kids about to embark on the best summer of their lives.

Ask me how awesome it feels to watch driver after driver cut you off in a #crosswalk while looking at their phones.

We need dedicated, protected #pedestrian phases at every *signalized* intersection.

And not after making us wait for 3 minutes.

I'm so proud of this kid for refusing to let an unexpected rainstorm ruin her bike-to-school streak

I really do try to believe that most* drivers aren't careless about the lives of others, but rather clueless. That's why I put together videos from my handlebar camera to show, from a bicyclist's perspective, what their driving looks and feels like.

The video here is a sample of dangerous--egregiously dangerous--overtakes by motorists over the course of a year.

Guess what! I made a friend!

Leaving our neighborhood this morning enroute to school, we met another biking family. They'd driven past us all year, and decided this week to try biking themselves. And they're doing it and loving it!

WE HAVE A BIKE BUS!

Kids shouldn't have to sacrifice their futures for the convenience of adults.
