We've been busy confirming the next saltmarsh restoration planting dates today.
If you are in Fife, near Tayport or St Andrews and like getting muddy while restoring habitat, reducing coastal erosion and creating a carbon store, we have a day out (or more) for you.

And again, for a saving of £30,00 a year (approx) due diligence on bats (endangered in Scoptland) will be watered down. Note - no redundancies amongst senior staff!

“It therefore appears that conservation of our native bat fauna is being axed in favour of controlling grouse shooting. Is that really NatureScot working for nature conservation in Scotland?” John Haddow (Bats team) said.

The Ferret · NatureScot axes free service for people needing advice on batsNatureScot, Scotland's nature agency, will end its free advice service on bats, sparking fears of illegal bat roost destruction by "desperate homeowners".

The saltmarsh walk went well today. The participants saw the new fencing in place on the seaward side of the saltmarsh that is taking some of the energy out of the waves, protecting the damaged saltmarsh. Next year’s plantings will also be protected while they establish, & once established those plants will go on to shelter the saltmarsh further, allowing it to extend more.

Green Shores has been featured in an article in Golf Sustainable online magazine.

Many golf courses are on or close to estuaries and benefit from the protection from erosion that saltmarshes provide, including at St Andrews Links and at Royal Dornoch who support our saltmarsh restoration work.

Golf Sustainable · Saltmarshes at Royal Dornoch and St. Andrews can grow againGreen Shores project of the University of St. Andrews ensures the renaturation of salt marshes.

It's always great to see points where the erosion of the salt marsh is starting to be reversed. This saltmarsh has been eroded previously but plants are now growing on the exposed faces, protecting them and helping the saltmarsh build again.
The height of the saltmarsh visible due to the erosion is a good indicator of how much sediment can be stored in a healthy saltmarsh.

Nice to get a bit more awareness out there about the Green Shores Project, this time through an article in the Northern Times, focused on the Dornoch Firth restoration site and all our partners.
