Colour photo. The early morning sun catching the top of a stone garden wall, covered in moss. There is a thin bottle green cable strung along the wall, which runs along the bottom of the frame, on a slight right-rising diagonal angle, which adds a subtle counterpoint to the horizontal line of the top of the wall. There are eight little plants growing vertically up from the top of the wall with space between each of them: thin fragile little stalks in the palest green, with the occasional proto-leaf sticking out from the sides, culminating in unopened buds. Behind and above is pale blue sky with some white splashes of cloud. The image feels spring-like and hopeful, the little plants, like all of us, reaching joyfully for the sun.

@Hagukh Did I ever say that your wonderful macro photos inspire me to embroider #mosses and #lichen in 3D? Seeing this photo, I think about how I could recreate the grey bodies. (My first try was not very realistic).

Macro of a moss embroidered with French Knot Stich on a 3-D structure. Tiniest brown rocailles build the sporophytes.

An applicated mix of embroidered mosses and a grey lichen with red fruiting bodies on the bark of a 200 years old oak that had been cut in the forest.

Came down to help my parents out a bit. They’ve both got something with a dry cough and aches.

This sculpture has changed logs at least once. This one has some nice moss and lichen going.

Three abstract bird sculptures with wire legs and feet (oxidized blue) mounted on a horizontal chunk of wood. They’re probably crows but not definitely. The bird shapes have some lichen and other age textures from being outside full time. The log is about 20% covered in moss.

In the foreground grows a Pixie Cup lichen (Cladonia sp.) with cup-shaped podetia growing from small green leaves (squamules).
In the background of the Pixie Cup lichen grows a Sand-loving Iceland lichen (Cetraria arenaria) with long, tufted, inwardly curved, dark green-brown lobes.
There are many fine, hair-like outgrowths (cilia) on the edges of the lobes.
Some moss grows between the lichens.

I took this photo last month at the summit of Little Haystack Mountain, White Mountains, New Hampshire. I had just spent five hours snowshoeing from the base of the mountain to this summit. The mountains seen off in the distance are ones I’ve also hiked in, including Mt Washington the one that is snow-covered and in line with the cairn.

A stick with grayish/black cup lichen (it might be Physcia aipolia, Hoary rosette lichen) growing on it.

The other side of the stick with patches of an orangish fungi growing. It resembles coral or the folds of a brain.
