#FMDX #MWDX #SWL The XHData D808 arrived last night and here are some quick first impressions.
FM: Typical DSP portable with good sensitivity and selectivity. With all the hype of its FM, I expected better. The Qudosen DX286 destroys it on FM. Better selectivity with its adjustable filters and the car DX286 chip makes it way more sensitive.
MW: D808 is a typical DSP portable. It's quite sensitive for its size, but if you have a really strong MW station, the radio's sensitivity decreases the closer you tune to the strong station. If I lived elsewhere, I'd really like its MW performance.
SW: Seems sensitive with full coverage to 30MHZ. It's a bit slow to activate SSB, but fine tuning works well with tuning knob and fine tuning dial.
Air band: I have to do more checking.
LW: same as air.
Ergonomics: Thumbs down. Frequency button is on the bottom to the left of 0. There's a row of buttons, same size above the numpad.
It's a keeper. I want a full coverage portable with SSB capability.

A follow-up to my #FT8 report, as the decoding session ran exactly from 2000z until 0300z today!

VERY surprised to hear Krasnoyarsk, Omsk, Altai 🇿 and Almaty🇰🇿 around 0000-0200z, again, on a KAZ facing NW 😵 In fact, Omsk & Yekaterinburg were logged as late as 0250z 😱 with sunrise in Omsk at 0304z. So grayline!

To the "correct" side, only 4 US stns right along the coast, spaced very tightly azimuth-wise. Interesting that KA2HTV's pin actually fell into Canada 🤨

#MWDX I thought for sure that WFME 1560 New York had signed off the air. Tonight, I got a top of the hour ID from them mentioning call letters, frequency and an FM translator, as well as familyradio.org. Signal was better here than when I last heard them, but NYC MW is booming in here tonight. Even with KDKA on 1020, WINS on 1010 is strong enough that it's clear with no co-channel splash.

BUT LOOK AT THIS 😬😬

Seeing that BOG as a rather poor solution for my need to catch anything from USA on MW on THIS PARTICULAR NIGHT, I found some stray wire in the garage.

It turned out to be my old KAZ, 12m wide, 4.5m high (so total length of the two arms was 15m).

It took a whole evening, well into dark hours, to hang it up in dense tree branches (no leaves on them now, that's good in this situation 😜), but eventually it's there 💪

Picking up 1130 WBBR & 1140 in no time 🧙‍♂️ #mediumwave #mwdx

Hmmm...

This BOG that I have is too short for #mediumwave, and it really struggles hearing any TA. Iran is strong, Scotland was better on Saturday when it actually was even shorter (I've strung up some 10m of coiled wire to make the whole antenna about 60-70m long.)

But here is a weak audio trace on 1140, and I see a few more TA carriers on the band! Maybe I should've extended it even further today? #mwdx

1377 kHz: CNR1, just have signed-on w/ The East is Red IS & whatnot as usual on Mondays only, and the signal is pretty good here in Poland tonight -- in fact, best so far this season 🙂

Well, it remained buried in noise on Qodosen DX-286 & Airspy YouLoop indoors, but the outdoor SuperLoop, which I was afraid I need to move further from home somehow, bagged the signal quite well 🙂 #mediumwave #mwdx
