A cloudy night in November, but the #aurora can't be completely hidden.

Does anyone know what #xiaomi packages are spyware on a poco F7 ultra ?
I've uninstalled some but many still remain. This is my second time I uninstall packages because last time I've removed at least one that I shouldn't.
I'm interested especially in the package that doesn't allow system packages to be updated from #aurora store - e.g android webview.
And the one that is directly tied to google play update - I can reactivate google play from adb from on device termux app.

My best pictures from the May 2024 #aurora storm were from Memaloose State Park near Mosier, Oregon (1 hr east of Portland on I-84), overlooking the Columbia River and getting some #AuroraBorealis reflection in the water. It was only the 2nd time I had seen aurora, and first time from the ground. It was a lot better than out a 767 window with stone-age camera tech of 2003. https://spacey.space/@AstroHawk/112421710110639749 #AuroraBorealis #astronomy #SpaceWeather
Hard to believe it's been a year since the G5 (Kp=9+) geomagnetic storm that brought #AuroraBorealis down to Oregon and beyond. I got pictures of Multnomah Falls with red #aurora behind it, which is looking south. We should normally not see polar lights to the south at 45.5N. https://spacey.space/@AstroHawk/112421293272835687 #AuroraBorealis #astronomy #SpaceWeather
It’s a year ago tonight that I was fortunate to witness one of the best displays of the Aurora Borealis that I have seen. The amazing thing is that this was mainly present in the southern sky with the whole southern arc lit up with the bold colours and easily visibly to the naked eye. Amazing stuff and a memorable night #Aurora #NorthernLights #Aberdeenshire #Scotland
On this #FlashbackFriday look back at the historic solar storm of May 10th last year, a rare, magical alignment of Big Dipper with the dazzling Corona Borealis.

Seeking Uranus’s Spin
Uranus is one of our solar system’s oddest planets. An ice giant, it spins on its side. We originally estimated its rate of rotation using measurements from Voyager 2, the only spacecraft to have visited the planet. But that measurement was so imprecise that within two years, astronomers could no longer use it to predict where the planet’s poles were. Now a new study, drawing on over a decade of Hubble observations of Uranus’s auroras, has pinned down the planet’s rotation rate far more precisely: 17 hours, 14 minutes, and 52 seconds. While that’s within the original measurement’s 36-second margin of error, the new measurement has a margin of error of only 0.036 seconds. In addition to helping plan a theoretical future Uranus mission, this more accurate rotation rate allows researchers to reexamine decades of data, now with certainty about the planet’s orientation at the time of the observation. Had some spectacular northern lights two days ago
The glow is still here today but sadly no arcs or glow that's easily seen by the eyes
I love this photo of me that Jo took, I could stand and stare at the universe for a very long time, well until I get cold at least
It truly was a pleasure - and fun! - to do some outreach today via being invited to have a table at a middle school career day...The area of town and being near a military base means there was a wonderful variety of students...
I took 'surplus' (!!) maps and the students who were inclined chose a map they liked and a spot on that map - and together we cut out that place into a circle and used a button maker to make them a pinnable map...
There was some time - if the student was open to the idea - of talking about the maps and spatial data behind them as we made the button - be it a coastal Oregon topo map button, an Indonesian geology map button, a US/Mexico demographics map button, a San Fran earthquake map button, and many more...

There is more about this phenomenon here: https://spaceweatherarchive.com/2023/11/16/spacex-auroras/ "During the burn, the engine releases about 400lbs of exhaust gasses, mostly water and carbon dioxide. All this happens at ~300km altitude, near the peak of the #ionosphere, so a significant hole is made."
My colleague Stephen Hummel (McDonald Observatory) obtained this spectrum of one of the 'ionospheric hole' glows. It's essentially an induced #aurora with the strongest optical emission in the 1D → 3P state of atomic #oxygen that emits at 630 nm.
Fazit nach 1 Woche #Android #Smartphone mit #GrapheneOS:
Installation verlief ohne Komplikationen.

I got up at oh-dark-thirty this morning to try to shoot the Milky Way in Washington State, but was surprised to find a faint, distant #aurora going on instead.
It's a #ThrowbackThursday post as I delve through my archives and found this little gem.
Convention wisdom would say that a #Leica M-P (Typ 240) isn't the right camera to use to shoot the #aurora, but who cares about convention wisdom when it can do the job?
Shot with Leica M-P (Typ 240) with the #Laowa 15 mm f/2.
Also, screw #Adobe! Revisited this with #Darktable!
Aurora over Norfolk Bay, 9th March 2025.
Quite a bright moon behind me with cloud diffusing it, no shadows.

Okay, #aurora watchers, all of Canada is in the red zone predicted for tonight. Northern US in the west and midwest also has a shot:
