"There's subverting expectations, and then there's Bullshit"
What a perfect description of Rian Johnson movies.
As of episode 3 I’m starting to actually appreciate the show. By now it is apparent that the main theme is female characters becoming aware of and exploring their sexuality - without the interference of men.
Maybe they also go some ways that are not entirely „good“ but overall I can get behind this.
NOTE: that’s just my personal reading and might not be the main intention - the anime is still pornographic and has shots of female bodies that are meant to arouse and cater to a male gaze.
Still internally debating if it’s okay to keep watching #GushingOverMagicalGirls
I’m really not a friend of nonconsensual action and I don’t like that this is another example where a sadist in anime can only thrive by forcing their kink on someone who isn’t a masochist… On the other hand she is supposed to be a villain….
But I also like a good Magical Girl parody and there were some funny scenes in the first episode.
If I continue with this I’ll definitely do so with a sense of guilt… also I’m actually disappointed that the legal streaming service has only a censored version.
So what episode 2 of Gushing over Magical Girls has revealed is that the Blue is very into it but in denial while the Yellow is a Switch but much more self aware.
Gushing over Magical Girls Episode 1 Impressions
Well that was sure a first episode. It had some funny moments, and hoo boy, it doesn't shy away from the ecchi, especially S&M.
Main character was more interesting than I expected. Can definitely see her diving deep in to her role as the dominatrix villain.
For those who don't want ecchi in their shows involving school girls in anime, definitely steer clear.
