GitHub is a dumb "Foss friendly" (but non-free) Git free hosting owned by the company I hate the most: Micro$haft.
If possible, you should self-host your own Git server with Gitolite and GitWeb, or #Gitea / #Gogs, or, if not possible, choose from multiple free (libre) Git hosting such as #codeberg , repo.or.cz, or #notabug, or #FramaGit.
The only reason I have an account @ GitHub, is that there are many projects that are still hosted there such as mpv. If all projects move, then I'll delete it.
