Anybody out there in GIS or urbanism or sustainability or transportation planning or any related field interested in taking over this server? I hate to have move again...but the owner is leaving mastodon.

Very cool to see walkable cities being one of the top reasons (#4 on her list) this woman cites as to why she left the US and moved to Norway https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rVwlDYk6l8
I'm sure @notjustbikes can understand :D

Hey Toronto! Make good trouble. I wish I could join you (but I'm in Madagascar).

#Cars are a #spatial problem!
#Walkability could be easily improved by fixing the small, nasty but ubiquitous issues of daily urban life. Reclaiming space that was dedicated to #pedestrians.
Great old video about a driver being judged in the afterlife for his "normal" but really irresponsible driving. His guardian angel finally got exhausted and slipped up.
Looking at the clock showing the growing count of traffic accidents and deaths, he asks the judge, "why don't you stop it?!"
The judge summarizes how the driver was generally an average driver, and how every driver is dangerous.
“It won’t be long before children won’t have any rights at all to the street.”

Most of the problems people have with snow are really problems with car dependency. Driving is already dangerous on a good day, and even more dangerous on a snowy road.
Eliminate the need to drive, and you eliminate the danger. Walkability and rail transit are the answer.
If roads ended as frequently as sidewalks, people would be in an uproar.
Suburbs and most rural areas are not the "green open spaces" we imagine them to be. The built space is mostly concrete and miserable.
Do you walk anywhere? Do you cycle anywhere? Or do you spent every moment outside a building in a car?
