Brinsley Schwarz - Nervous on the Road
One of the most interesting things on this album is listening to Nick Lowe swing around the beat - he isn't just a great songwriter, but a great singer, too.

Probably my favorite singer-songwriter, musician, etc., is celebrating his 74th birthday today. Happy birthday to Nick Lowe! From his roots in ‘70s pub rock to his crooner stage to the amazing stuff he’s done recently with Los Straitjackets, Basher is the real deal.
From 2020, “Trombone” is a horn-saturated gem.

Cruel to be kind, it's a very good sign"

"Yes, you call up the law
Do what you like
You keep the car

I did not know I liked Country Music. About 10 years ago I was waiting for a meeting to start and put on Little Feat - Willin' on my laptop. Someone walked into the meeting room and said, "Ugh, turn off that Country Music.". I said, "It's not Country, it's Little Feat.". Then someone else walked in and said, "Ugh, Country, shut that off.". I started to say, "It's not Countr..." but I stopped. I realized I like #JohnPrine, #LittleFeat, #NickLowe, #JohnHiatt, #SonVolt ...
I'll be darned!
Nick Lowe had been in at least two bands before releasing his first solo record - Jesus of Cool - in 1978. It's *basically* a Rockpile record, and a pop masterpiece.
In the UK it was called Jesus of Cool. The US couldn't deal with that, so it was called Pure Pop for Now People here...with a slightly different track list.
This year, Yep Roc released it combining the two versions as "Wireless World" (one of the original titles). So good.
