Sadly, I’ve had to relinquish development of rAV1ator CLI, a command line encoding utility I’ve been enjoying working on for a while. I thought initially that this would be the end of the tool’s existence.
Luckily, I was wrong! A new maintainer has stepped in to keep up a fork: https://github.com/ultimaxx/rav1ator-cli
If you’re interested in continuing to use rAV1ator CLI, please use this fork. Thank you, ultimaxx!
TIL about ffmpeg by example, thanks to vermaden blog post

If you're interested in video encoding at all, and you'd have a good time reading a video compression performance deep-dive with relevant metrics and a popular high efficiency video encoder, see my friend Trix's latest blog post on the Codec Wiki about SVT-AV1 v2.2's performance: https://wiki.x266.mov/blog/svt-av1-third-deep-dive
Enjoy!
So, quick update on Sisyphus: went ahead and fixed some minor issues, updated the main site documentation because I had forgotten to add a requirement after building the `handbrake` module, and got that pushed out.
Also pinned the library versions that the clients use. Should keep the amount of chaos down on install. The default Docker build is based on Alpine, but there are three different container builds that can be used included.
The client is now at version `1.5.4` which fixed an issue where when `ffmpeg` fails it absolutely mangles the command output. #python #encoding #sisyphus
