> Elle a été un temps valorisée à 47 milliards de dollars et devait être la valeur star d’un nouveau modèle de bureaux, flexibles et partagés. Mais la gestion hasardeuse de son fondateur, Adam Neumann, et la pandémie auront eu raison d’elle. WeWork, entreprise de «coworking» tombée en disgrâce depuis plusieurs années, a déposé le bilan lundi aux Etats-Unis.

Hands up: I am far removed from big business, economic affairs, capitalist megalomania and such shit - I was raised to despise it and, frankly, understand FA about it - but I am HOOKED on this week’s stories of multi-billion-dollar-scale, tech-fronted pyramid schemes collapsing…
Genuine questions:
Am I too quick to see a pattern because #FtX and #WeWork are all over the news in one week?
What do they have in common that allowed them to scale scams as old as magic beans at such alarming pace?
It’s hard to believe a glorified landlord didn’t turn out to be the next big thing.
I know some investors are irrational, myself included at times, but believing a landlord/property manager can scale like a tech company is a whole other level.
“Community-adjusted EBITDA” should have led any potential investor to open a short position instead.

For a moment I though #WeWork is somehow getting out of troubles. But no, it's just "1-for-40 reverse stock split to get its shares trading back above $1" https://www.cnbc.com/2023/09/06/wework-ceo-says-company-is-here-to-stay-as-it-renegotiates-leases.html
blog! “WeWork - how did anyone fall for this bullshit?”
I've just finished watching Hulu's WeWork documentary. It is genuinely one of the funniest movies I've seen this year. Seriously, how can you watch that and not crack up? If I were the head of an investment fund, I think I probably would have fallen for Theranos. Sure, Elizabeth Holmes was a bit of a […]

#WeWork
The #WeWork documentary is the *funniest* thing I've seen in years.
Who falls for this bullshit?
WeWork says there’s "substantial doubt” it will even be able to stay in business. Few companies have risen to such towering heights only to crash so badly. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/business/2023/08/10/companies/wework-substantial-doubt-stunning-fall/?utm_content=bufferb4f5c&utm_medium=social&utm_source=mastodon&utm_campaign=bffmstdn #business #companies #wework
