Feels like the fictionalized adaptation of a crime documentary white people are watching on Netflix right this second. Doles out information very slowly so the viewer overthinks what's going on. Nicole Kidman can play these distraught characters in her sleep. Matthew Macfayden goes from barely playing a character in that Deadpool movie to barely playing a character in this. Gael Garcia Bernal is in this and the movie really tries to manage the height discrepancy between him and Kidman. Starts off

Heather Graham is slightly miscast as her character is underwritten and her accent is singsong at best. It's Depp's show and all other supporting cast be damned. Even though you know (at the time) this crime is unsolved, the procedural is still suspenseful. It's a breezy bloody 2 hours. Near the end it's more of a triumph of production design over story, but you don't mind. The

#NowWatching Thief (1981)

This is probably, almost certainly, my absolute favorite film from Michael Mann. It's got all the style. It's got great story beats. It's got massive attention to detail and authenticity (or so I'm told).
Incredible soundtrack.

Also, it's my favorite feature in the Chicagoland Cinematic Universe. Move over Ferris Bueller. See ya later, Blues Brothers.
