Wat Israël ‘arrestaties’ noemt, is in werkelijkheid een systeem van onderdrukking, waarin nu bijna tienduizend Palestijnen zonder proces worden gegijzeld. Sinds 7 oktober 2023 is de mishandeling en vernedering van Palestijnen in gevangenschap onvoorstelbaar geëscaleerd. Dit is geen uitwas – het is doelbewust beleid.

Het is een windstille, koude nacht in oktober 2023. De vrouw en zoontjes van Amin (30) slapen, maar zelf zit hij klaarwakker op de bank. Door de ramen in de zitkamer kan hij de toegangswegen naar zijn huis in de gaten houden. De Correspondent en maak meer verhalen mogelijk voorbij de waan van de dag.

#Palestine / Israeli army briefly detain Italian activist and journalist in Occupied West Bank
Israeli forces briefly detained Italian activist Luisa Morgantini, former Vice President of the European Parliament, and journalist Roberto Bongiorni in Tuba, near #Hebron in the occupied West Bank, for allegedly entering a "military zone."
They were taken to a police station in the Kiryat Arba settlement but were released shortly after due to intervention by the Italian embassy and consulate. Morgantini, a prominent figure in the Italian peace movement and co-founder of Women in Black Italy, was in the in the context of her peace activism.

B’Tselem documented 25 testimonies detailing this abuse, which included beatings, threats of rape, and psychological torture. Many of these attacks occurred publicly and were even filmed and shared by the perpetrators.
Shiri Davidovitch, a researcher at B'Tselem, argues that this violence is not only a product of the daily realities of occupation but is also fueled by a societal climate in #Israel shaped by the October 2024 war. The lack of critical media coverage of the conflict in #Gaza and the emphasis on a simplistic notion of “victory” has created a societal thirst for vengeance, dehumanizing Palestinians and normalizing violence against them. This dehumanization is evident in the casual brutality documented in #Hebron and the widespread sharing of violent imagery online.
Davidovitch concludes that as long as Israeli society continues to dehumanize Palestinians and prioritize a narrative of revenge, such abuses will continue.
