The war didn’t need to happen. It was provoked. It doesn’t necessarily mean it was provoked by the Russians. There were all kinds of conversations back then about Ukraine joining NATO. That didn’t need to happen. It basically became a threat to the Russians.

As a reminder, no “conversations” about #NATO would ever happen if #Russia had not been threatening newly liberated Eastern European countries with return of Eastern Bloc regime all 1990’s. This was literally the only reason why these countries joined NATO in 1997-2004. It was Russia’s invasion on neutral and non-aligned Ukraine in 2014 that made it to add the goal of joining NATO in 2019. And it was Russia’s 2022 invasion on Ukraine that made #Finland and #Sweden join NATO. So let’s not mistake the cause and effect here…

For example, an idiot once told me that while the West is all about promiscuity and sexual freedoms, in Russia, “true love” is still possible. This romanticized notion of Russia is often combined with another leftist dogma: that NATO is the ultimate evil. According to this view, anyone in conflict with NATO must have something good or virtuous about them. I had no idea that #Chomsky had a stroke in 2023 and lost his #speech as a result. I'm not exactly partial towards his approach to #linguistics, but I'm very much sympathetic to a #linguist losing his ability to speak.

The smart way to keep people passive and obedient is to strictly limit the spectrum of acceptable opinion, but allow very lively debate within that spectrum. That gives people the sense that there's free thinking going on, while all the time the presuppositions of the system are being reinforced by the limits put on the range of the debate. Noam Chomsky

The comparisons to #Marx are especially bizarre given that #Chomsky is probably one of the more prominent anti-communist liberals out there. He’s spent his career paying the most basic lip service to Marx and then ruthlessly criticizing socialist countries with no regard for larger historical context. He actually peddles the idea that Leninism is a right-wing perversion of Marx and referred to #Marxism as an “irrational cult.”
