Earlier this week, Comet C/2024 G3 (ATLAS) made its closest approach to the Sun.
While doing so, it made a dramatic appearance sweeping through the wide-field LASCO C3 coronagraph of the ESA/NASA SOHO mission over a few days.
Here’s my take, a triplet of Deep Red, Orange, & Blue filter images taken over an hour around 09:00UTC on 14 January, as an RGB composite.
Here is an outstanding pic of comet C/2024 G3 (ATLAS) taken by astronomer and nightscape photographer Yuri Beletsky in the southern hemisphere from the ESO observatory in Paranal in the Atacama desert in Chile.

What a beauty! This is comet C/2024 G3 (ATLAS) passing through the field of view of the LASCO C3 coronagraph.
It wasn't for certain whether it would survive it's closest approach to the sun on January 13th, but it did and delivered us a spectacular show!
