#Acronis was, if i remember correctly, a software where the documentation mentions that you should set permissions to 777 and set the stack to 2K.

A customer called me up once because a previous admin could not get it to work. Turns out, if you follow the manual you reduce the stack size from 8 to 2 k causing acronis to crash.

of course don't follow that chmod 777 thing it will break your systems security. posix should forbid that nowadays.

#Acronis seems to be latest company turning greedy. I have used their "Acronis True Image" backup program for a very long time. It has been - and still is a very solid backup program. They had offered permanent licenses and i bought every three to five years their latest version. Last version was 2019 for three PC, about 50€ (IIRC).

Just few days ago they sent email offering 40% discount for new version.

First, it was no longer a perpetual license, but a yearly subscription, making the price 300% .. 500% inflated for me.

Secondly, i see no actual discount. You know, where price is actually *lower* than normal.

Thirdly, i use basic but the offer is the advanced version which has even more unwanted crapware packed in.

Time to abandon Acronis. I'm already using #Syncthing. I had it already as #Dropbox &others replacement. Full-featured backup came as a bonus, but that's another story.
