the conclusion to Nosferatu, the VIC-20 game crammed into 8K of space
wherein the sharp stick and mallet get used for unconventional purposes

in which I embark on the VIC-20 game Nosferatu
which, unusually, has us not here to kill the vampire, but steal an artifact and escape
also, I give the story of Terminal Software and how fibbing to a reporter led to their most famous game
I decided to release the source code of my award-winning text adventure game for vintage computers, Silk Dust: https://github.com/DarwinNE/Silk-Dust #opensource #retrocomputing #TextAdventure #InteractiveFiction #GPLv3
Next on All the Adventures, a mysterious ZX81 French adventure crammed in on a tape full of other programs with no author and no date.
Also, a flask of acid gives leprosy.

All the Adventures reaches The Final Countdown
in which I stop a general from destroying the world
and also give some history of voice sound synthesis

Suddenly, out of nowhere, your mind was blown.
Imagine if they'd paid Douglas Adams to write a paperback novel version of his Infocom game Bureaucracy!
I just corrected a bug on the Spectrum version of Silk Dust that prevented the player to finish part 2 of the game. I suspect the same bug affects other Z80 platforms. Stay tuned! https://darwinne.itch.io/silk-dust #indiegame #TextAdventure #correction #Z80 #z88dk #ZXSpectrum #retrocomputing #SilkDust #InteractiveFiction
Mastodon folks out there, any idea what this item is? From the Apple II game from 1981 called The Maze. Can't pick it up, ignore the horizontal line behind which is background.
I have tried:
BOX, PACKAGE, DISK, CONTAINER, CUBE, REAM, PAPER, ERASER, MAGNET, CRATE, CART, CARTON, BOOK, VOLUME, TRAY
All the Adventures visits the Apple II game The Maze by the mysterious company Fermented Software.
It's in the ultra-rare-for-1981 "first person adventure game" format, a view more typically seen in RPGs like Wizardry.
All the Adventures aims to give the history about and play every adventure game ever made in chronological order. The 1982 sequence has just concluded, and I've written a post looking back and collecting some notable games.

All the Adventures reaches the finale of Countdown to Doom, with one of the most clever puzzles in the game. Plus, I analyze why this game violates so many game design rules yet plays fair anyway.
With this I'm done with 1982 in my chronology and can move on to 1983.

The Hobbit continues at All the Adventures, as I investigate missing room exits, get tossed into dungeons, try to decipher goblin behavior, and find the One Ring.

Someone reported a bug on #SilkDust. It appears only in the versions of the game where all the parts are spliced together in a single executable (Amiga, Macintosh, Atari ST, etc.).
The game can be finished, but there is an object that is not shown in the inventory (but can still be used) and there are some quite misleading messages. If you are stuck in part 2 read this: https://itch.io/post/12785724 #TextAdventure #IndieGame #retrocomputing #Amiga #Mac68k
In which All the Adventures finally embarks on The Hobbit (1982)
I clear up a great deal of history that has been muddled over the years
and get lost in the game fairly early.
I’ve played Miriani for a short while, and Cosmic rage for a little bit after that. I as enjoying mining stuff. I have vehicles. I can even asteroid collect. But I had to get my computer fixed and now it’s gone. Anyone have good games where I can just hang around, mining stuff and making killer money in the game? Maybe I’ll buy an apartment or something, I think I even have one. Tell me about the good mud games. Or tell me about the good games in general. I missin a good game. Go #BlindKind, I know you can help a sister out! I’m not the worst at muds, I’m not the best. #mudGames #muddGames #textadventure #cosmicRage
On All the Adventures:
With some help from my commenters I managed to pry open most of Enchanted Forest's secrets and finish the game, although some cryptic messages remain.

All the Adventures reaches what might be its last "traditional" adventure of 1982 with the North Star / Apple II game Zodiac Castle.
Includes a single-path labyrinth and an omnipresent dragon that can visit any dark room.
Next for All the Adventures, come for a tale of computer generated swordfights, chess, and frontal lobotomies as I play the wildly ambitious Bedlam (1982).
Includes characters with randomized motivations and multiple endings!
All the Adventures reaches the astonishing conclusion to Mysterious Mansion
where I need to hack the save file due to a bug
get an item which changes the entire game
and identify (I think) the mysterious author

the conclusion of Aardvark's game "for children" Haunted House, with a highly unusual verb near the end, and a ghastly bug which I'm amazed got through even given Aardvark's lax standards
