Hrefna (DHC)<p>The shim is going to be _very_ thin because I don't need to swap runtime databases and can do a little work when I switchover, though maintaining the ability to run against something like <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/sqlite3" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sqlite3</span></a> would be nice just for demo purposes. </p><p>I've gone back and forth around whether I could use a non-relational database, but RDBMS are known quantities, SQL is such a well established language (even with variants and quirks), and creating a shim like this to swap between NoSQL systems is…&nbsp;nontrivial.</p>
Hrefna (DHC)<p>How I am prototyping playing around with <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/ActivityPub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ActivityPub</span></a> this time (with bonus <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/OCaml" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OCaml</span></a>) for databases:</p><p>Basically I'm building a thin shim over the database API layer. This is both remarkably easy and remarkably weird in OCaml, so it makes for a good learning experience and gets me a little more comfortable with modules.</p><p>The first pass I'm just writing the basics with <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/sqlite3" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sqlite3</span></a>, later I'll go through and modify it to work with <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/PSQL" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PSQL</span></a> and/or other options.</p>
