Today in 2010, Andrée Peel died in Long Ashton at the incredible age of 105.

Born and raised in France as Andrée Virot, she joined the French Resistance during World War II and saved the lives of 102 allied pilots. Andrée survived torture and concentration camps.

She later lived for many years in Long Ashton with her husband, where she worked as a healer.

She features in Unsung Women in Somerset.

Today is St Ethelburg’s Day!

6th February is also the feast day of her husband, King Ine.

Ethelburg. Queen of Wessex. Battle leader. Traveller. Pilgrim. Nun.

There's a whole chapter about the fascinating Ethelburg in Unsung Women in Somerset. Out now! books2read.com/unsung

Pictured is the holy well where Ine and Ethelburg’s friend St Aldhelm died. Located in Doulting, it's worth a visit in my opinion.

This day in 1989 marked Kathleen Tacchi-Morris’ 90th birthday & she
chose to set up a Trust to establish creative exchanges between British students and students across the world. She said, “Future generations will need lots of help to deal with environmental problems and world peace. I just want to spread peace after I peg it.”

The Trust she set up became the Tacchi-Morris Arts Centre, which opened in #Taunton in 2000 & is still going strong today.
