The device can be re-charged using <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/usbc" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>usbc</span></a> or 9 to 18 V DC at up to 3 A via a jack or other connector. The rnode shuts down cleanly when batteries run out &amp; re-starts when power is back, whereupon the batteries charge at the same time in <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/passthroughcharging" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>passthroughcharging</span></a></p>
adingbatponder<p>I am testing an open-source circuit design (<a href="https://meshtastic.discourse.group/t/rak-4631-solar-repeater/7694/83" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">meshtastic.discourse.group/t/r</span><span class="invisible">ak-4631-solar-repeater/7694/83</span></a>) for solar charging a RAK node, the aim of the circuit being to make the node re-start automatically if the battery is re-charged by the sun after having been flat (<a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/brownout" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>brownout</span></a>). Build details here <a href="https://meshtastic.discourse.group/t/rak-4631-solar-repeater/7694/86" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">meshtastic.discourse.group/t/r</span><span class="invisible">ak-4631-solar-repeater/7694/86</span></a> with test results not in yet.... takes time to drain the battery and see if it re-starts. For now, it is just nice and compact. <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/meshtastic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>meshtastic</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/solarnode" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>solarnode</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/pcb" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>pcb</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/rak" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>rak</span></a></p>

Long-term test is in progress. The node reports the solar panel voltage and current, as well as the temperature and humidity in the box. It can be carried around in a small bag.
