GeraldHello World! <br> I'm still working out how it all works here. But with time, a suitable workflow will emerge.<br> <br> In the meantime, enjoy these pictures from December 2022. On this day I bought my beloved Leica Q1 and went out on the street in the evening to take a few snapshots.<br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/streetphotography?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#streetphotography</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/leica?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#leica</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/helloworld?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#helloworld</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/munich?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#munich</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/pictureoftheday?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#pictureoftheday</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/rsnapshot?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#rsnapshot</a>
Jordan<p>~2003 I asked my friend about good Linux backup software.</p><p>He told me to use rsync in a script, with cron or whatever, and basically roll a solution myself. I thought that was such a hack-y way of doing it.</p><p>But he was right. Rsync rules.</p><p>Also, software using rsync like rsnapshot and BackupPC, and countless others, are very good.</p><p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/rsync" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>rsync</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/backup" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>backup</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/backups" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>backups</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/rsnapshot" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>rsnapshot</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/backuppc" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>backuppc</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/sysadmin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sysadmin</span></a></p>

Rocky Linux :rockylinux:<p>📸 Need to backup your Rocky Linux servers? Run -rsnapshot. I am running out of space with my <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/rsnapshot" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>rsnapshot</span></a>-based approach as it doesn't deduplicate renamed files and am considering to replace it.</p><p>What makes me a little uncomfortable is that should the borg executable break (be it a stupid temporary library error or whatever) and I need my files FAST I'd be screwed, right?</p><p>Also that you can't backup while your snapshots are mounted is a (minor) inconvenience.</p><p><a href="https://www.borgbackup.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="">borgbackup.org/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p>

There's an issue in there about removing ignored data; I don't recall if it's on the todo list or was too complex to add in. The forums can be helpful if you're not getting the performance your expect - sounds like something may be amiss unless you're working with very large numbers of files. I'd be interested to know how you get on with <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/rsnapshot" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>rsnapshot</span></a></p>

Karl Voit :emacs: :orgmode:<p><a href="https://graz.social/tags/restic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>restic</span></a> seems to be a fine <a href="https://graz.social/tags/backup" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>backup</span></a> solution.<br>However, it assumes that target disk space has no limit (which is hard to recover from) and it assumes that you don't have time-restrictions on running a backup. My backup times vary hugely between 6min and &gt;4 hours with a median of 1 hour.<br>Both assumptions are a huge pain for me in my daily life. I will probably have to get rid of restic because of that, switching back to a more reliable <a href="https://graz.social/tags/rsync" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>rsync</span></a>-based solution like <a href="https://graz.social/tags/rsnapshot" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>rsnapshot</span></a>.</p>
