The Eastern Snail Shell Mason Bee (Osmia conjuncta) is a small North American blue bee which makes nests in suitable empty snail shells! Don't need them because they lay their eggs in other bee's nests. (This is called being "cleptoparasitic".)🐝 There have to be enough of their specific prey bees to keep their population going. But insect populations have been dropping for decades, so Sharp-tailed Bees can be very hard to find. hastingsmothmanWell, would you give it credence?! 😮 Just as I was putting the moth box away, I spotted this little critter gripping a table leg. A Mullein Moth and the first sighting in 2025. One of the 'wood mimics', resembling a bark chipping or dead plant stem to avoid detection.
