Katy TransWomenAreWomen Ereira<p>Thank you for your talk <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://phpc.social/@michelle" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>michelle</span></a></span> 💚 I missed it at DPC because I had a headache. 😭 I'm glad I got to see it at <a href="https://phpc.social/tags/phpDay24" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>phpDay24</span></a>. Your journey is very similar to my own. I definitely think us 'different girls' carved our own places on the early '00s internet. We didn't fit in offline and we barely fit in online either. I've been thinking about that a lot lately, and I miss the <a href="https://phpc.social/tags/OldWeb" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OldWeb</span></a>. I hope that we can return to old style community building as people become disenfranchised by <a href="https://phpc.social/tags/enshittification" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>enshittification</span></a>.</p>
Jessamyn<p>Just wrote a letter back to a librarian pal who sent me a fiver in the mail to get a MetaFilter account. Even though we both have email (and I could probably text him) I decided to just reply to his request for an account in the same way I received it. </p><p>So, even though an account costs $5--and we have a waiver system for folks who can't afford it--people can still get one with minimal viable privacy intrusion, if they want. I'd love to hear of other websites which do the same <a href="https://glammr.us/tags/OldWeb" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OldWeb</span></a></p>
robotalien<p>Looking at some designs of old websites, I'm impressed by how much difference texture can make. I've been putting gradients on everything because <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/CSS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CSS</span></a> lets me, and I can also make triangle and simple shapes, but I can't create, for example, polka dots or carpet patterns in pure CSS. I'm struggling to make actual image files to use in my <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/webdesign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>webdesign</span></a>.
