Mark Stosberg<p>The Framework 16 laptop detects when it's booted partially assembled. It boots into a special mode to walk you through completing the assembly. The screen updates to reflect your progress and prompt the next step. This requires no tools to complete. Impressive! Watch:</p><p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://fosstodon.org/@frameworkcomputer" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>frameworkcomputer</span></a></span></p><p><a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/Framework" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Framework</span></a> <a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/FrameworkLaptop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FrameworkLaptop</span></a> <a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/Framework16" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Framework16</span></a> <a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> <a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/Video" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Video</span></a></p>

cukie<p>Anyone have experience with color calibration on linux? Specifically with gnome?</p><p>The gnome docs suggest a pantone huey is the best supported and cheapest option. Dmitry O. :pour_over_coffee:<p>Got my <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://fosstodon.org/@frameworkcomputer" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>frameworkcomputer</span></a></span> a few days ago. So far so good. <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://fosstodon.org/@fedora" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>fedora</span></a></span> works nice and smooth. I haven’t had much time to play with it but I like it!</p><p>120 Hz screen, amazing keyboard, even better than <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/ThinkPad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ThinkPad</span></a>’s! I’d say similar to older pre-haptic MacBook’s. </p><p>However a few downsides:<br>5 GHz WiFi doesn’t work. It connects to the network but can’t access anything. Not sure if it’s the laptop’s problem or mine. 2.4 GHz works fine.<br>Built in speakers aren’t good but I don’t care because I use them about never. </p><p><a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/framework" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>framework</span></a> <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/FrameworkLaptop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FrameworkLaptop</span></a></p>
scy<p>Of course you shouldn't lift it at a dangerous acceleration, but I found that if it's fast enough so that the lid/screen is a bit more open than it was before (due to inertia) afterwards, there's a good chance that I produced a click. (_Please_ don't damage your screen hinges while trying this!)</p><p>I wouldn't say that it's an "issue", but it's certainly good to know :)</p><p>I'd love to hear from anyone who's able to reproduce this with their own device!</p><p><a href="https://chaos.social/tags/FrameworkLaptop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FrameworkLaptop</span></a> <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/FrameworkLaptop13" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FrameworkLaptop13</span></a></p>
scy<p>Hey <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/FrameworkLaptop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FrameworkLaptop</span></a> 13 owners: I had a strange issue where video playback would sometimes stop once I physically moved the laptop, e.g. from the couch to the desk.</p><p>Turns out I can click my touchpad&nbsp;– from below.</p><p>To reproduce, grab the laptop (lid open) with one hand, with your thumb next to the touchpad and the other fingers on the underside of the case, opposite to where the upper half of the touchpad is, as pictured. Your grip should feel safe and secure.</p><p>Now, quickly lift the laptop.</p>
Danny Jay Donnell<p>I'm thinking about getting a framework laptop. scy<p>One of the USB ports on my Ryzen 7040 Framework Laptop 13 stopped working some time ago, after a firmware update I think. Rebooting didn't help, leaving it powered off for some time didn't either. Even another firmware update didn't fix it.</p><p>But a mainboard reset as described in <a href="https://community.frame.work/t/diy-fw-13-amd-7640u-port-1-not-working/42069/7" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">community.frame.work/t/diy-fw-</span><span class="invisible">13-amd-7640u-port-1-not-working/42069/7</span></a> did.</p><p>1. Disconnect charger.<br>2. Remove input cover (can stay attached).<br>3. Reconnect charger.<br>4. Hold chassis switch down for 2&nbsp;seconds, 10 times.<br>5. Reassemble.</p><p><a href="https://chaos.social/tags/FrameworkLaptop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FrameworkLaptop</span></a> <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/troubleshooting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>troubleshooting</span></a></p>
Gus<p>Me on Wednesday, seeing a firmware update for my <a href="https://aus.social/tags/FrameworkLaptop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FrameworkLaptop</span></a> available in LVFS: "Sweet, maybe they sharpened up their BIOS software engineering!" *Applies update*</p><p>Me, today, after my laptop quietly stopped charging entirely and has now discharged the battery to zero and won't charge or power on. "Well, fuck."</p><p>Me, after discovering that Framework have since pulled that BIOS update from distribution due to *different* critical bugs. 🤯🔥🤯</p><p>I think it might be new laptop time, regardless of whether my Framework ever boots again. 😞</p>

cliffle<p>Alright, so. Recently, about once a day, my <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/FrameworkLaptop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FrameworkLaptop</span></a> 16 has been doing ... this.</p><p>This results in the loss of all USB.</p><p>Which includes the internal keyboard, any external keyboards, any bluetooth keyboards... basically, everything except the trackpad, which is HID-over-I2C, and the power button, which is wired to the cros EC. I wind up having to hard-power-cycle the machine.</p><p>I'm resisting the urge to throw this annoyingly bendy laptop out a window.
