A reminder: I'm offering one-on-one information architecture coaching sessions. I've heard from folks who've been assigned with looking after IA in their team and want advice + a sympathetic ear. These sessions are ideal for that scenario. Learn more: https://www.theiaden.com/ia-coaching
Managers like to focus software teams on adding functions rather than on lowering user frustrating.
"Yes and" … with every release, also pay some usability debt:
• Shorten complex workflows.
• Update broken information architecture.
• Refactor to prevent user errors rather than show error messages.
• Replace jargon with plain language.
• Rewrite error messages clearly, to say what to do next.
Does anyone in my network have any research / advice / useful reading on principles for writing content when a user doesn’t get the outcome they want.
For example, an unsuccessful loan application, ineligibility for a service etc.
Shares appreciated
Does anyone have any useful data on using exclamation marks (or rather, not using them) in customer communications that will wield a bit more authority than my current rationale: “it gives me the ick”?
In today's #NaBloPoMo article I wrote about my experience of the misjudged emails I received from AirBnB earlier this year, and the impact that had.
This experience reaffirmed for me that Sara Wachter-Boettcher and @Meyerweb's book Design for Real Life is as needed now as it was in 2016.

Who we, #ContentDesign, are, continued:
"Our skills and perspectives are unique in our teams, and uniquely enable us to ensure UX content is accurate, actionable, and inclusive for every person—wherever, however, and whenever they need it."

Share the #ContentDesign manifesto with your #ProductDesign friends, please!
"We are content designers, shared owners of user experience (UX) design processes. Our job is to design experiences that are clear and meaningful for the people who use them. Clarity and meaning drives business impact for our organizations."
In a past client project, I helped temper the overly confident #UI #contentdesign to be more suggestive than definitive, and it led to lots of user trust and adoption.
Hit me up to learn more about that #UX case study—for now I’m still #opentowork!

@peterme @dahukanna My frustration with the hashtags are mostly used by people complaining about bad UX rather than by professionals. I've found #userResearch and #ContentDesign more reliably used by practitioners.

Apple’s Writing guidelines (published earlier this year) have already moved, and the old URL now throws an error.

A study about messaging to get #parents to vaccinate their kids against #COVID found (unsurprisingly) that parents are most swayed by social norms - other trusted parents did it! Next are reassurances that the #vaccines are safe and tested. They are not as swayed by messages that the vaccines are “well-tolerated” (srsly?? Don’t do this lol) and that they’re “available and recommended.”

#DesignSystem folks:
How many of you have dedicated writers on the team?
How many need one?
Asking for a friend.
I gave a talk at a #UXWriting conference yesterday. Is there anyone here who’s like to hear more about it? I focused on moving from taking string requests to proactively planning #ContentDesign work.

LOL, seeing what the big deal is with #ChatGPT. Ofc the first thing I test is whether it could do my job - #ContentDesign in #government.
“Write an application form for a cannabis business applying for a business license in San Francisco.”
The answer is, perhaps unsurprisingly, no. (Which is funny because it's been 3 years since I did publish such a thing.)
TBH it did get hit a few legal requirements surprisingly well. But I feel very confident that I will not be replaced anytime soon.
