Chrislintott<p>Musing more about speaking about <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/science" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>science</span></a> after the <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/bluedot" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>bluedot</span></a> weekend. It's striking how the very best talks I saw are a long way from what I used to do as a standard public talk - essentially a seminar with fewer technical details. The very best talks are stories, with narrative, surprise, sometimes humour, and a rhythm to them that's very different to most speakers, even the good ones. How do we teach this? Should we? It's a lot more work than the standard approach...</p>

Very proud of my talk - which will appear online in some version someday - which was about how to deal with the size of the Universe. And an amazing collaboration with Steve Pretty (pictured with hacksaw and conch) and Jeff Miller on tuba which included New Orleans brass, exoplanets, poetry, Olaf Stapledon, an improvised rap about the Crab Nebula and much much else. Somehow, Bluedot always makes me want to be more ambitious on stage…</p>
