Hi all, I've just setup my own #Akkoma instance, so it's time for an updated #introduction
I promise I won't move accounts again and I'll keep @kedara as a backup.

I'm very much into #yoga and #meditation and everything related to that. I'm trying to learn #Sanskrit because its a beautiful language and also in order to be able to read text like the #BhagavadGita #Upanishads #YogaSutras which greatly inspire me.

I'm from the #Netherlands and work in #science in the field of #AirQuality I may occasionally share something about that, but this is not a work account (and any opinions are my own).

I love #photography , mostly related to #nature #weather #clouds #trees
I try to make a trip to the #forest at least every weekend, I'm lucky to live at the edge of the #Veluwe nature area.

I love growing food in my #garden using #organic #permaculture and #RegenerativeAgriculture inspired methods, I'm dreaming of tending my own #FoodForest some day.

Unfortunately I'm operating at half power thanks to #LongCovid since Feb. '22.

I'll mainly post in English with some posts in Dutch as well. Unpinned toots will be deleted after 3 months, I only boost photos with alt text (feel free to let me know if I've forgotten to add it!).

Let me know if you have similar interests and I'll be happy to chat!

The Quote compares the Trinity Test to the Gita’s visions of God. First, the radiance of a thousand suns. Then, the black, wrathful mushroom cloud, a Destroyer of Worlds.

Like Arjun, the dutiful soldier, Oppenheimer’s labour is also rewarded with a vision from God.

And like all soldiers, the vision they are granted is of the End of the World.

Oppenheimer does NOT think he is God the Destroyer. I believe the “I” in The Quote confuses people. Oppenheimer does not think he is God or Frankenstein.

Oppenheimer thinks he is Arjun. A soldier who has to do a dirty job, because it is his duty to fight good people led by villains.

Prince Arjun, a mighty warrior, is overcome with doubt and conscience. How can killing so many good, noble people, his own relatives, be right? He can’t fight.

Perhaps in the oldest version Krishna just told him to man up. But the later Gita stops time and has Krishna as the voice of God expound philosophically on how to live, in a message to all.

The Bhagavad Gita is likely a multi-authored work, inserted into a massive multi-generationally authored encyclopaedic Ancient Indian epic, the Mahabharat.

The core story is that of a mythologised civil war; there are good people and good arguments on both sides, but the protagonists’ side is led by a good would-be king, the antagonists by a villain.

उद्धरेदात्मनात्मानं नात्मानमवसादयेत्
आत्मैव ह्यात्मनो बन्धुरात्मैव रिपुरात्मन:
(Elevate yourself by your own self. Never lower yourself.
Your mind is your best supporter, [or] it is indeed your worst enemy.)

- Bhagavad Gita 6:5

Spend your time wisely. No one can stop your project if you decide to do it, unless you yourself procrastinate. You're the only person who might decide to waste your time.

Everywhere Oppenheimer's quoting of the Bhagavad Gita is presented as showing how deep and cool he was. An analysis of the quote and its implications in the Gita reveal something less cool.

As James Hijiya shows in his paper, "The Gita of J. Robert Oppenheimer," he shows how Oppenheimer's invocation of the quote was eerily similar to the "I was just following orders" of those who killed for another WW2 nation.
