Charlotte Joanne
I frequently see people asking, even demanding, that AI-generated Alt Text stop. If those folks clearly have usable vision, I block them and move on – life’s too short for preachy whining from people who don’t rely on Alt Text.

But when it’s a blind person saying this, I’m surprised. As a blind person myself, I know that 99% of the images I encounter online lack any description. Now, with a suite of AI tools, I can finally generate accessible, usable image descriptions. Are they perfect? No. Computer vision isn’t sight, but it’s made staggering progress – beyond what I ever expected. And if I need more clarity, I can always consult a human through these same tools.

Blind people slamming AI-generated Alt Text isn’t helping. We need these systems to improve, not disappear. The reality is, expecting every image to have a human-created description is unrealistic. Let’s push for better technology, not bash what’s already making a difference.

#AI #AltText #Blind #BeMyAI #BeMyEyes #AccessAI #ComputerVision #AssistiveTech

Elena Brescacin
@weirdwriter I am of course involved in the AI technology, being blind as well I am (for now) happy of the #BeMyAI tech and all other aids coming along, such as @letsenvision and others. But there's a "but" bigger than the whole universe: all these facilities are maintained by a couple companies, big tech, who have all instruments to manipulate us. For example why on Earth shouldn't I have adult-only material described? They're biased like their builders.

Rachel keyte
haha in other news, don't you just love that flurty-sounding female voice that has been demoed with chatGBT4 O? man it's hilarious! I can't wait for this. I downloaded GBT on my phone and noticed that it's in the share sheet, meaning, I can now have photos described with either #BeMyAI, #SeeingAI or #OpenAI

Amir
Yet another Be My Eyes for Windows shortcoming: users cannot upload or provide extra pictures in an ongoing conversation, unlike what Be My Eyes for Android and iOS do. Textual questions can be asked, but no more pictures can be sent. And, apart from that, how does Be My Eyes help with pictures on the web or on social platforms? It seems not to have been implemented.
@bemyeyes
#Accessibility #AI #BeMyEyes #BeMyAI

Joy Tilton
I think it's cool that I can have people sending me photos and that I can utilize something like #BeMyAI to give me a gist of the photos, especially over the last couple days as I'm a part of a text messaging group consisting of my family. Now, if only there could be a way to have #AI do at least short video descriptions.

Andre Louis
When I met my father in-law during Christmas of 2008, I had a #Nokia with BeyoCBS which was I guess the much cheaper version of NKFB Reader. At the time, I showed him how (air-quotes) 'Easy' it was for a blind person to read stuff. He handed me a bottle of wine and it took me perhaps three goes before I got anything meaningful out of it. Every year or two I try to find something else to show him. This year with the introduction of #BeMyAI and Seeing AI doing what it does, will be interesting. Though he's not very tech-savvy himself, he's always curious to see how I do what I do as the years progress, and this year I think will likely blow his mind. I thought reading anything on a phone in 2008 was great, but it's not a patch on how fast and also much more accurate, things can be these days.

Gordon Anthony
A lot of people using Be My AI are reporting that the app has been rejecting photos because they have reached their quota & need to upgrade their subscription.
Since there is no subscription, this must be an issue between Be My Eyes & ChatGPT. Andre Louis
Alice was on the London Eye today, as one of her school friend’s decided to have their birthday party on it, and she took this picture which I ran through #SeeingAI and #BeMyAI because I really like both descriptions, so one of them has been included in the alt-text, and the other is threaded as it wouldn’t fit within the character limit. I think they bring something unique to the table in each case.

Amir
Courtesy of Be My AI, today I was able to get a better grasp of what the surroundings looked like on the stage when I was attending a concert ; a piano recital actually. Let me share the description Apple provides for one of my concert pictures, its AI description, my question, and AI's reply:
Apple description: A piano on the stage in front of a blue curtain.
AI description: The picture shows a stage with a grand piano on it. The stage has a dark blue curtain as a backdrop. The grand piano is black and shiny, with its lid open, and there is a matching black piano bench in front of it. The stage floor appears to be made of wood and has a golden fringe skirting. In the foreground, there is a white panelled barrier separating the stage from the audience area, and the floor in the audience area is carpeted in a dark color. The lighting is dim, with a blue light illuminating the left side of the curtain.
My question: What's the piano model? Can you help me with that?
AI: Yes, the piano has a name on it which reads "Bösendorfer". Bösendorfer is a renowned Austrian piano manufacturer, known for producing high-quality grand pianos. The pianos made by Bösendorfer are often used in professional concerts and performances due to their rich sound and craftsmanship. However, the exact piano model is not visible or written.
#BeMyAI

Anything to more streamline the process of taking a photo, then going to the share sheet or launching the app separately and getting it to describe the image only to find out you took a crappy photo and have to start all over again…
