brendan<p>Self-Hosted Corner (Day 25): I was surprised to see I hadn't mentioned this resource yet. Awesome-Selfhosted List. Looking for a new project to self-host? You will lose lots of time looking at this, <a href="https://awesome-selfhosted.net/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">awesome-selfhosted.net/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a>. It's a well curated list with categories for everything you can imagine. <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/selfhosting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>selfhosting</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ownyourdata" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ownyourdata</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/homelab" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>homelab</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/awesomeSelfhosted" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>awesomeSelfhosted</span></a></p>
Feoh<p>What do people use for <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/awesomeSelfhosted" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>awesomeSelfhosted</span></a> whole network ad blocking / protection these days?</p><p>I used to run Pihole: <a href="https://pi-hole.net/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">pi-hole.net/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> and loved it.</p><p>I gave up after a while because my wife wanted to click on ad links when she got promotional emails from Sephora, etc. But she's come around to the idea that there are real risks around allowing ads through and is willing to give it another shot.</p>

Wordpress site<br>2. Zulip instant messenger<br>3. Bookstack information repository<br>4. Discourse forum</p><p>I'm aware of the <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/AwesomeSelfHosted" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AwesomeSelfHosted</span></a> resources but too many to try out one at a time!</p>
Aerion<p>I'd also like to give a shout-out to <a href="https://desec.io" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">desec.io</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> who sadly don't appear to have any social media presence, so I'd like to draw some attention to them here. deSEC is a Berlin based free secure DNS provider running exclusively on <a href="https://nerdculture.de/tags/FOSS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FOSS</span></a>, who aim to make <a href="https://nerdculture.de/tags/DNSSEC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DNSSEC</span></a> features easily available. They provide both a <a href="https://nerdculture.de/tags/dynamicdns" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>dynamicdns</span></a> and <a href="https://nerdculture.de/tags/hosteddns" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>hosteddns</span></a> service and run a global <a href="https://nerdculture.de/tags/Anycast" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Anycast</span></a> network. An <a href="https://nerdculture.de/tags/opensource" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>opensource</span></a> <a href="https://nerdculture.de/tags/DNS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DNS</span></a> is the perfect partner for your <a href="https://nerdculture.de/tags/awesomeSelfhosted" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>awesomeSelfhosted</span></a> project like <span class="h-card"><a href="https://fosstodon.org/@snikket_im" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>snikket_im</span></a></span> <a href="https://nerdculture.de/tags/XMPP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>XMPP</span></a> <a href="https://nerdculture.de/tags/fediverse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fediverse</span></a></p>
Aerion<p>I'd like to give a shout-out to <span class="h-card"><a href="https://fosstodon.org/@snikket_im" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>snikket_im</span></a></span>, and in particular to <span class="h-card"><a href="https://mastodon.technology/@mattj" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>mattj</span></a></span> for creating this awesome new <a href="https://nerdculture.de/tags/XMPP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>XMPP</span></a> project, as well as a friendly and welcoming support community. Snikket has lowered the bar of entry into the world of XMPP by several orders of magnitude. It takes more time to install/configure your <a href="https://nerdculture.de/tags/raspberrypi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>raspberrypi</span></a> &amp; prepare your DNS zone than it takes it to install Snikket itself. Anyone who can get Linux running on a Pi can run their own XMPP server thanks to Snikket. <a href="https://nerdculture.de/tags/awesomeSelfhosted" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>awesomeSelfhosted</span></a></p>
