Sometimes even the cursor is stuck. It does not seem to be heat-related even though temp of CPU, GPU and storage rise a lot : I've used a browser benchmark to load the GUI, I've got record-breacking temps but GUI remained fully responsive. I'm a bit lost, I don't know where to look next. What system metrics should I track ? What tests could I try, taking into account I can't switch OS, nor shut down or reboot too often as this freebsd PC is my internet gateway too.

I've tried <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/xfce4" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#xfce4</a> and <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/kde6" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#kde6</a>. I'm impressed how mature and polished the KDE was, although running a bit slow at times. xfce is lean ans sleek, much less complex without feeling being incomplete. My hackish, fully keyboard driven <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/i3wm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#i3wm</a> and <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/kitty" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#kitty</a> terminals setup looks like it was made in a shed of sticks and zip ties. However, its ergonomics and how it fits to me is unrivaled, its speed and responsiveness are top-notch and it feels so good getting back to it. I've kept Thunar, will use it from time to time instead of <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/mc" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#mc</a> and <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/zsh" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#zsh</a>.

And although it's quite a different and very new experience for me as a long time <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/Xfce4" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Xfce4</a> user, I think it's not as bad as I thought ... it feels less loaded then (dare I say it?!) Plasma, for example. Of course, this is just my humble opinion.As for Wayland, it just works with my <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/RX580" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#RX580</a> which is very good to know.Oh, and speaking of Xfce4 - I tried that with Wayland as well and it works, but there are still a few things left to be done, e.g. the mouse and keyobard setup didn't work (no setup dialog showed up) and there was no desktop background being shown, despite having selected a default image.
