Have we not all been saying this on Mastodon?

Trident is dead, find a European alternative.

I suppose this goes for a ALL American technology now, doesn't it?

View it as you would Russian tech.

(And yeah, in an ideal world we would need nukes, but with Fascism taking over we do now. It's either that or kiss minorities like me goodbye, we don't fit into this new world being promised)

The Guardian · US support to maintain UK’s nuclear arsenal is in doubt, experts sayBy Ben Quinn

Can Europe build a credible nuclear deterrent without US support?

France and the UK, Europe's only two nuclear-armed powers, have scaled back their forces since the end of the Cold War, but they are now being called upon to step up.

Continued thread

‘Post #Trump, will atlanticism ever again be a rational policy for a UK government? Will Europe itself be a stable partner?

And what of #Trident? With the US pursuing its self interests without hesitation, does it make sense for the UK to rely on a #nuclear capability dependent upon it? What use is a weapon system that could be switched off, repurposed or used as leverage by an American administration with its own agenda?’

Not many brave enough to say this today…but it needs to be said.

Ever heard of the Letters of Last Resort?

They give the British Prime Minister the ability to send nuclear strike commands from beyond the grave. Want to learn more? Read my latest blog post!

Scottish #Nuclear base staff using #pagers adds to #Trident fears

By Hamish Morrison

"Alba general secretary Chris McEleny, who previously worked at Royal Naval Armaments Depot Coulport where nuclear warheads are stored, told The National 'people will be astounded that the safety of the UK’s nuclear deterrent is still supported by a network of 1980s and 1990s-style handheld pagers'.

"He added: 'The #Hezbollah attack should result in the MoD now assessing the vulnerability of where the country’s stockpile of #NuclearWeapons are stored because pager holders are highly likely to be in close proximity the most critical possible systems and materials on site but then the pagers go offsite overnight.'"

Trident has a new album dropping in May and they gave us a live clip of one of the new songs.

It's so good, even if it's a little softer than some of their other stuff.

Check it the live clip from "be with you" here on YouTube: youtube.com/watch?v=w90M6nF-oG

Hmm, it's Wednesday, so time for @Kitty's Mittwoch Metal Mix. I'll count this as my entry this week if that's cool.

"Trident missile test fails for second time in a row...The missile was supposed to have flown several thousand miles before landing harmlessly in the Atlantic between Brazil and West Africa. Instead it dropped into the ocean near to where it was launched."

I can't speak for anyone else, but I would certainly prefer it if the British government didn't go around displaying indications, however inept, of its intentions to help usher in WW3

BBC NewsTrident missile test fails for second time in a rowThe UK's nuclear deterrent failed to fire a test missile reportedly landing close to the launch site.

Recent Royal Navy test of the missile that carries Britain’s nuclear deterrent failed within seconds raising new questions about the deterrent’s viability at a time of elevated #nuclear tensions

The US-manufactured #Trident missile was launched from #submarine HMS #Vanguard off the east coast of the U.

Instead of flying the planned thousands of miles before coming down, it crashed into the sea near the launch site.
