FedeEl fediVersoMe gustaría tener las expectativas que alguna gente que habita o frecuenta estos espacios que llamamos “fediverso” muestra cada vez que puede. Básicamente porque la información disponible no describe un panorama de cosas que me permitan ser tan “optimista”. Es difícil hablar de números de personas que participan de las “redes alternativas” porque debido a la naturaleza federada y descentralizada del fediverso es un dato bastante escurridizo y susceptible de manipulación. Pero podemos intentar con la información que provee, por ejemplo, <a href="http://fediverse.party" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">fediverse.party</a>. Según <a href="http://fediverse.party" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">fediverse.party</a>, existen en el fediverso 13.661.071 cuentas repartidas entre 17.002 servidores. <ul><li>solo 2.218.554 tienen algún tipo de actividad (gente que publica o interactúa o que simplemente inicia sesión), lo que representa un 16.23%. </li><li>23.07% del total son cuentas de Mastodon, o sea 3.151.783. </li><li>2.13% son cuentas de Lemmy (291.257) </li><li>0.24% son cuentas de Pleroma (33.245) </li><li>el 74.56% restante se reparte entre el resto de plataformas o software. </li></ul>Tratemos de hilar más fino. Veamos Mastodon, por ejemplo, que es la plataforma más utilizada. <ul><li>Hay 55 servidores activos que proveen Mastodon, es decir, el 0.32% del total de servidores del fediverso. </li><li>El 78.13% de las cuentas de Mastodon (2.246.621) se concentran en una sola instancia (<a href="http://mastodon.social" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">mastodon.social</a>) y de ellas, solo un 33.68% (756.793) son cuentas activas. </li></ul>La diferencia entre cantidad de cuentas registradas y cuentas que tiene algún tipo de actividad es aún mayor en Lemmy y Pleroma. <ul><li>De las cuentas de Lemmy, el 8.6% presenta actividad. </li><li>De las de Pleroma, el 7.4%. </li></ul>Si comparamos estos datos con, por ejemplo, los de la más “pequeña” de las plataformas privadas que es X (con alrededor de 570 millones de cuentas activas), los números muestran que el Fediverso es tan grande como el 0.39% de la ex-Twitter. Un número que casi desaparece cuando se compara con Facebook, que tiene alrededor de 2500 millones de cuentas activas, casi el doble de la población en China. ¿Para qué sirve todo este ejercicio? Bueno, de estas cifras se desprende que, aunque el Fediverso ha experimentado un crecimiento notable, sobre todo en los momentos de mayores controversias de algunas plataformas privadas, aún representa una fracción muy pequeña en comparación con las grandes redes centralizadas. También muestra que la descentralización es relativa, que existen recursos pobremente aprovechados, personas malgastándolos (conozco usuarios con 5, 7 y hasta 10 cuentas diferentes) y que no hay nada parecido a alguna especie de organización de las pocas miles de personas que sostienen este caos hiper fragmentado que cuesta tanto tiempo y dinero. Estos números, parciales, imprecisos, subrayan la importancia de construir estrategias de promoción y educación sobre las redes descentralizadas basadas en datos algo más concretos, además de las expectativas. Si lográramos hacerlo, podríamos desarrollar enfoques más “objetivos” y efectivos para enseñar y comunicar el valor y los beneficios de estas alternativas, y fomentar una adopción más amplia y consciente. Claro, si es que hay algún interés general colectivo. Porque en el panorama actual, parece que hay un montón de esfuerzo de muy poca gente que tampoco tiene ideas y objetivos comunes, y mucho menos, personas usuarias que muestren otro interés que no sea el de utilizar estas redes para otra cosa distinta de las privadas.
