She came forth from the depths
Her golden hair wet and tangled
The sand of the beach clinging to her delicate feet
A beauteous woman, young and alluring
Nature itself sighing in relief as she took her first breath

She was golden and pure, a delight to behold
And to her ran spirits of time and season
To comb the tangles from her hair
And dress her in robes of gossamer
Placing sandals on her feet

The sea sounded saddened by her absence
The beach grew flowers and she walked
The sky grew brighter as Hyperion looked on
A new joyous feeling flooding the world
As she walked forward into the world

To her the Horae sang a song
Of love and everlasting pleasure
For to the world was born a goddess
That would send even the gods into a frenzy
Aphrodite of the beauteous breasts that all would envy

1- As a youth I picked simple bouquets mostly of the 2 earliest #wildflowers for Mom's birthday + #MothersDay When I moved back and grew spring flowers, the bouquets grew more elaborate; after Mom's passing, they became #spring celebrations of #Life #rebirth the start of the ancient #Latvian season #TimeOfFlowers + the #Baltic #PreIndoEuropean #GreatMother #Goddess It all blends seamlessly, at least in my mind...lol

Morning walk was full of little delights today. Loved this tower of fungi. And I think this is a tawny owl feather which is very cool.
Really felt quiet blessed this morning.

#OTD, 15 May, it's the #Mercuralia, a Roman festival in honour of Mercurius in his function as the god of commerce. Merchants would sprinkle their heads, their ships and merchandise, and their businesses with water taken from the well at Porta Capena in Rome. The water was said to bring good fortune for trade. King Numa met at the same spring with his goddess girlfriend who gave him all his great ideas for early Rome, isn't that right, @phistorians?

A grammar lesson for Pagans:

-"Pagan" is a proper noun, and should therefore always be capitalized when used as a noun.
-A noun can be described as "pagan," (i.e. a pagan festival, a pagan priestess) which makes it an adjective, so it doesn't need to be capitalized.

If you don't know when to capitalize, then just replace the word "pagan" with "christian" and your autocorrect will suddenly know exactly what to do with it. 😑

(FYI: Pagans don't actually care if you capitalize it or not, but we *do* like to annoy the puritans :_witchlaugh: )

The hyacinths are thrusting up through the soil, the gayest flower of the early spring season. They're named after Greek hero and Spartan prince, Hyacinthus. Renown for his beauty, he was a lover of the West and North Winds, and later Apollo.

He tragically died while playing discus, when he chased after Apollo's throw and it bounced back and hit him in the head. An accident, or the influence of the jealous West Wind, Zephyrus?

Where his blood fell to the ground, Apollo raised flowers to honor him. He was defied and buried at the feet of Apollo's temple, and his cult was widespread. There is some evidence he was actually a pre-Hellenic cthonic deity of vegetation and sorrow, who was later merged with the cult of Apollo.

Though our modern day hyacinths are not the same as the ancient Greek's, which were closer to irises, every year I still appreciate these cthonic, phallic flowers when they arrive to signal spring.

Lord of Hosts
Of weary travelers seeking shelter

Lord of the aegis
Thunder in your hands

Lord of the storms
That frighten man and beast alike

Lord of the heavens
And all the gods that there dwell

Lord father of wisdom
That ever wily goddess

Lord father of the prophet
That ever strong god

Lord husband
Of the fierce goddess of heroes

Lord brother of the sea
Whose power shakes the very earth

Lord brother of death
That god who reigns over the dead

Lord Zeus, Dieus Piter
God the father
Lord of all you survey
Father of gods and men
Father of heroes that shape history
And Heroines that observe and lament
In your name we live
In your name we share
In your name we open our arms
To those most in need

Gracious Lord
God of the roads
Where travelers walk
Merchants carry their wares to market
And thieves search for their marks

Gracious son of Zeus
Angelic lord of the range
Of the pastures for grazing
The goats on the hills above
And the farmers keeping them

Gracious Hermes
Son of Maia
Thief of the sacred cattle
Creator of the lyre
A gift to the radiant Apollo

Gracious Psychopompos
Leader of the somber parade
Of the shades of those now gone
Down into the Earth
Where Hades and Persephone await
