hkz
Look 'ma! No corruption!!!

Ok the flex is very promising. But far from perfect.

First of all, I wrongly assumed the pins were spaced 2.54mm, and it seems not. They probably are 2.5mm apart. I did not measure, and it bit me in the ass. The adapter can be assembled, but it doesn't stay perfectly flat, which irks me to no end.

Second, I should have made it 2 or 3mm shorter. It's slightly too long, makes too much of a bend.

Third, I should have made it thinner. 0.1mm and not 0.2.

Too long and thick make it so that it pushes against the connector on the bottom side, making the connection a bit too precarious for my tastes.

#pcbway

hkz
I retrieved the prototypes kindly sponsored by #pcbway ! They all look fine and good quality, especially the flex.

I'll probably begin building and testing them next week, I guess starting with the interconnection flex for the NES, followed by the second revision of the TK2000 floppy disk interface.

hkz
Looks like the package with protos from #pcbway got to destination!
To my old house, as I am often away these days and I risk missing packages, so I'll just go at my parents' to pick it up at the earliest convenience.

It's a very busy time: lots to do at the farm in preparation for fairs and summer markets. And this is a good thing.

And lots to do at my job, and that is because of union-related (or at least what we have here in Italy that can be translated to "union") matters I can't share much about. And this is not really a good thing.

Still, I finally got home. Time to lay down, read a bit and dream of soldering the protos.

hkz
Great, #PCBWay has kindly offered a sponsorship for my next run of boards to print.

This month I'll have:
- New revision of the NoCIC (https://github.com/hkzlab/NoCIC), which adds an optional connection to the CIC-RST signal, so the NoCIC can reset its counterpart in the game cart, plus two resistors to load the data-in/out pins (these should be tested on those weird unlicensed carts that zap the CIC)
- New revision of the TK2000 disk controller that does away with bodges and unneeded circuitry
- An experimental flexible PCB to use with the NES Slotmaster. This tries to interleave the traces with a ground fill to reduce the noise

Daniel Tufvesson
After fiddling with various VoIP adapters and Asterisk for way too many hours trying to get modem traffic to pass reasonably well I decided the world needs a new and open analog phone exchange project! Let’s see how far I can take it. These boxes are usually the start of a fun evening. 🧵 1/n
#pbx #retrocomputing #pcbway

hkz
Wait. What the fuck is happening with #pcbway ?

The difference in price for the same board with JLCPCB is a bit too high to make me think this is not a problem on their end.

hkz
About time to pick this #NES project back up!
I swapped out the defective spring-load cart mechanism with a Slotmaster (https://github.com/ShawMerlin/NES-Slotmaster) that seems to be working great!

BTW I had this printed by #PCBWay, and it came out perfect. Also want to thank everyone that printed my PCBs there, as I was able to pay for this print with those credits!

Next step is deciding which replacement power module to use from https://github.com/ShawMerlin/NES-Power-Module-Redesign

Fundamentally the decision is: do I want to use a PPUDigitizer/RGBtoHDMI or an internal FPGA based RGB solution that brings out analog signals?

I still need the damn ZIF socket. It should arrive within the week, hopefully. I want to reroute some traces for better clearance, so might draw another revision.

Tomorrow I'll build the first pod too, and I should be able to go on with the Denise Amiga clone build.

If that passes, it's pcb drawing time!
