Berkeley Morris
Took us a while, but we finally got here. Time for #introductions:

We are Berkeley Morris, a Morris dance team from Berkeley. If you've never heard of Morris dancing before, you're in for a treat. It's a traditional English festival dance involving weirdos in silly costumes, clashing sticks, waving handkerchiefs, jangling bells, miles of colorful ribbon, and, of course, the type of squeezebox-heavy folk music you'd expect from such a spectacle. We also have a soprano sax.

You can read more about us and Morris dancing on our site, berkeleymorris.org.

During our performance season (May 1 through solstice), you can find us around the Bay Area spreading good-natured mayhem and merriment. Sometimes there's a maypole.

Don't be afraid to say hello! We certainly won't...

#MorrisDance #folk

Morrisman
We (Taunton Deane Morris Men) were up on Cothelstone Hill on the Quantocks at sunrise to dance up the sun, but it was a bit cloudy. soaproot
Looking for #MorrisDance on this network turned out to be a deep rabbit hole - there is a whole related instance whose local timeline at https://folksocial.org/public/local was fascinating. David Wells
The music for the video is a Wren Song, traditionally sung on St. Stephen’s Day. It’s one of my favorite trad tunes of the season, and a tribute to English-American folk / Morris pioneer #TonyBarrand , who passed away in January 2022.
