🍄💀Shye Strange💀🍄<p>I decided to swap my Mastodon Instance on my server with a <a href="https://deadrobots.social/tags/Sharkey" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Sharkey</a> install (<a href="https://deadrobots.social/tags/Misskey" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Misskey</a> fork). I've used the same domain, but I've still lost posts, follows, likes, etc in the migration. But yeah, just in case, this is not some weird clone thing or anything - which I totally get is what a weird clone thing would probably say... 🤔</p>

Mitex Leo<p>I’m kinda done with Mastodon. It’s been my main spot, but it’s missing quote posting, which drives me nuts—I just wanna comment on posts without resharing everything! Also, it’s eating up my server’s resources, and I’m running a bunch of stuff on one machine, so I need something that doesn’t hog CPU or disk space.</p><p>I used Akkoma with Mangane frontend before and really liked how light and customizable it was. Problem? The database got huge, and I couldn’t find simple tools to clean out old stuff. It was like digging through a messy closet. I’m thinking of trying Akkoma again, but is there a way to keep the database under control?</p><p>I’m also looking at Misskey—it seems fun with quote posting and a cool community. But does it use a lot of server resources? How hard is it to back up or move to another server? One of the mainstream protocols that make the Fediverse even possible, commonly used on Mastodon, CherryPick, Misskey, and Sharkey, is called, ActivityPub. Many (most?) <a href="https://fedi.tyil.nl/tags/Mastodon" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Mastodon</a> instances, appear not to be. Anyone supporting <a href="https://fedi.tyil.nl/tags/FediBlock" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#FediBlock</a> or likeminded initiatives is not in favour of an open Fediverse, they simply wish to create a new variant of <a href="https://fedi.tyil.nl/tags/Twitter" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Twitter</a><span> where they are the ruling class.<br><br>If you stick to the places which are "banned" by such initiatives, you reach a public that deeply cares for freedom of speech and/or opinion, and are unlikely to defederate entire instances for it. Many will still defederate spam instances, but there are even those that don't defederate from those. The "downside" is that you will have to experience opinions you disagree with, though if you are above average intelligence, you will actually value this as a major benefit.<br><br>To promote the idea of freedom (of thought), run alternative software to Mastodon, such as </span><a href="https://fedi.tyil.nl/tags/Pleroma" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Pleroma</a> or <a href="https://fedi.tyil.nl/tags/Misskey" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Misskey</a>. Avoid alternatives that strongly desire to limit what kind of opinion you're allowed to have on <i>any</i><span> topic. Avoid any instance that partakes in shared blocklists. Don't trust any admin that wants more than 200 users, or otherwise desires to grow for the sake of growth. And don't trust any admin that is unwilling to publicize their blocklist.<br><br>If you want a quick and easy way to experience more freedom, actually sign up and/or follow people on instances listed on shared blocklists.</span></p>

Linux Is Best<p><span>I know most people dislike AI on the Fediverse, but we really do need an AI on the Fediverse to deal with the spam problems.<br><br>I work for Meta, and do you think we spend all day, every day, removing spam? <br><br>NO. - We have an AI for that.<br><br>The only time I see spam is when someone appeals. You'd be surprised on how entitled people feel to post, junk.
