The request came yesterday, one of the client's employees is not able to open the Excel files on his system.

Tried taking remote access, but the system is slow and old enough that Anydesk didn't install. Couldn't take the remote.

Verbal probing didn't get me much information.
Cx requested to visit. Scheduled for 31st December i.e. today.

Leaving for the site in 10 minutes.

Weird question about Microsoft Excel

So I have been wanting to learn more about how to use Microsoft Excel so I can teach other people about some of the more advanced programming techniques. But then I really do not want to burn up all of that disk space just to run Wine and Excel.

So I got to thinking:

  1. is there an older version of Microsoft Excel I could use instead?
  2. The “ribbon” UI/UX asside, how far back in time (in Excel software versions) would I have to go before the formula language and cell computation engine became too different from the most recent Excel that it would not be very useful for me as a learning/teaching tool?
  3. Would it take less disk space to run this in a minimal Windows NT 2000 or Windows XP instance on QEMU than it would take on Wine?

Stay on the keyboard ⌨️ don’t touch that mouse! 🚫🖱️ Tip: you can edit the contents of a cell in #MSExcel by pressing F2, to exit press F2 again. Dead simple, job done, happy days 👍 Seriously a lot more streamlined than moving back and forth to the mouse and double-clicking each time you want to edit the cell contents.

#Excel #dynamic #array #cumulative sum
To calculate a 2-D array where each row is the #cusum of each row in the source table, it’s possible to use the #MMULT function. The #matrix multiplication is done with an upper-right triangular array of 1s. But when you get to 1000 rows, the matrix is a million-cell array, and for 3000 rows or more, #MSExcel is going to go out of memory.
Here is an efficient method of doing this for a dynamic array cusum down columns.

Hi, I’m James and this is my #introduction.

I'm originally from a rural town in middle Missouri but now call #SaintLouis my home. I have a love for the American southwest (my Mom is from New Mexico) and for the coastal city of #Savannah #Georgia.

I'm single, live alone with two #dachshunds (#dogs) named Amelia and Penelope. I'm a #progressive #liberal, can't stand money in #politics, and yearn for a day when the #Democrats improve their messaging and start fighting back.

What I'm into: #Photography, #Cooking, #Grilling, #StarWars, #StarTrek, #80sMovies, #JurassicPark, #Marvel, #dinosaurs, #computers, #gadgets, #VBA, #Python, #MSExcel, #art, #archaeology, #history, #3DPrinting, #philosophy, #news, and you'll find I'm a bit of an all-around nerd.

I’m also #diabetic, suffer from #anxiety, #depression, and #panicattacks. Forgive me in advance if I reach out.

I'm sarcastic as all get out but I have a big heart, that's easily broken when I see people (or animals) hurting.
